Looking at a CBF600, 2004 with only 6500 miles, and it's £2685, seems awfully cheap doesn't it?

Anything in particular I should look at on these models when I go take a look at it? I don't know why it just seems awful cheap for what it is, maybe I'm a bit out of touch though. Also, anyone have one, how is it with reliability, MPG etc?
Thanks as always. |

It's a 9 year old bike so no, it's not that cheap. I'd want to know why the mileage is so low.
That said, I picked up a 10 year old GPZ500 with 4,500 miles on it, so it does happen. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Not a lot to go wrong with these. Being a 2004 model, it is one of the first out of the production line. Check that the rear shock mount on the swing arm hasn't rotted, which I doubt it will have done with that mileage, although it does depend on how it has been looked after. A friend of mine has covered 65,000 miles (and rising!) on his CBF as he uses it to commute to his workplace. Is that a photo of the exact bike? If so, looking at the front caliper it is equiped with ABS so just check that the light goes out on the dash (It won't just go out when you turn the ignition on like in a car, it will go out when the wheels have made a few revolutions).
The CBF is a basically a slightly de-tuned Hornet, with around 75bhp. It shares a lot of components with the hornet - frame, brakes, front end, most engine components (both bikes share the CBR engine, although both are in a different state of tune) and they are very reliable. Valve clearences are at 16k miles on these, so you've got near enough another 10k miles to go before they need checking. If you go for it, check that it's had a good service before you pick it up. Despite the mileage you'll want some fresh oil in there.
One last thing - the seat is height adjustable - it has 3 different height settings so you can have a play around with them if you find you are too short or too small for the machine.
Hope that helps ____________________ Previous Ride's - '01 Aprilia SR125 (Sold) '08 HONDA CBF600n (Sold) '96 CB500 (Sold) '01 FZS 1000 (Sold) '06 CB1300SA (Sold) '07 CB600F Hornet (Sold) - '93 Suzuki Savage LS400 (Sold) '98 Honda VTR1000 Firestorm (Sold) '05 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '01 FZS1000 Fazer (Sold) 2016 Harley Davidson Street Bob SE (Sold) '02 Kawasaki ZX9R (Sold) '98 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '04 Suzuki Bandit 1200s (Sold) '13 Yamaha FZ1-N |

Same here, I had one as a hire bike for a few weeks. Was sad to see it go, but as said it was very predicatable; no surprises or acceleration 'oomf'.. it just went. More upright than my hornet but actually very comfortable for me.
I found the screen did buffet my helmet with a lot more wind that what I have been used to though, had to duck down more. ____________________ Yamaha RXS 100 > Honda CD 250 > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda CBR 600RR > Yamaha RXS 100 > Kawasaki ZX6R J2 > Yamaha FZ1 |

I've got me one of these, on a '57 plate. Passed my test on a 125 so it's still restricted, and as I've got limited experience of other bikes to compare it to, it seems a good, steady bike to me. Yes it won't win too many races against CBRs, but it's very forgiving, comfy and feels "safe".
To the OP, nice bike and nice price too! ____________________ our bike family...Wanda - CBF600
