Same reason folk take other risks I guess... because they can.
Frame on my bike gets really hot when the weather's baking... surely it's not that comfy in shorts. I've ridden around in combats enough times trying to keep my knees from contacting the hot metal. |

I don't see why people get so excited by seeing other bikers in shorts etc on a sunny day. Occasionally I do it myself. So what??
I've had plenty of crashes to know how much it hurts, and it b****y hurts, but that's the risk you take.
Personally I'd like not to ride with a helmet at times, but the law says we can't and that's that. Nanny state UK. Brilliant. |

I've an armoured textile jacket, boots and some textile trousers with padding in. It's the minimum I'd wear to commute or go for a spin but I've ridden in jeans and trainers a few times dashing a couple of miles between our sites at work.
Does anyone else feel more confident wearing protective gear? ____________________ Too skint to buy a bike |

If I had a cruiser I'd wear a t-shirt in summer. I don't leave the house expecting to crash
As it is I wear a leather jacket, jeans and trainers most days. Don't see a problem myself - I don't ride like a spanner anymore and I generally realise I'm not fully protected, thus ride accordingly.

although I always wear the correct gloves / jacket / footwear, etc but my one flaw is trousers. In the summer sometimes I wear jeans nothing any less thick but still just jeans.
Unfortunatly large fat people like me have very little right to safety let alone comfortable or fassionable safety and I get sooo hot in summer the trousers I can wear.
One of the things in my list of ' as soon as I can fit them' is a pair of those safety jeans with the padding and knee pads in. Getting them in pink, however may take slightly longer ____________________

I have fully armoured, weatherproof jacket/trousers and gloves but no boots yet.
And mostly I just wear the jacket/gloves and some jeans, but any long haul rides I do, fully suited, and I will steal my Dads boots too
And sometimes, if I am at work, and I want to quickly go and get something from the garage a bit down the road, I just put a fleece on and gloves. :< ____________________ 04 Suzuki GSX-R 600 K4 - Sex on wheels :>

There is no way I would undertake a journey in less than Cordura jacket and trousers. My normal riding gear at the moment is cordura waterproof trousers of the salopette type, and a leather jacket. I do have leather jeans too, but they are a tad small |

It looks pretty trick and all, but from experiance it aint worth it
6 months ago i hit a car and ended up sliding down the road at 50
I had trowsers on and the road had just been resurfaced with stone chips
needless to say i only ever wear my leathers now, i had a propper jacket on but decided to keep the trousers on as its a short jurney to work
lost all the skin from me knee and all up my leg....
i'll dig up the old pictures of me leg.... allow others to prevent making the same mistake I did ____________________ A scientist crossed a skunk with an owl. He's got a bird that smells but doesn't give a hoot |

Whats wrong with full leathers? They take a bit longer to put on but thats it. Leathers look good and if you crash you can still ride in them afterwards cos textiles seem to shred up fairly quickly. ____________________ Enjoy Life There's Plenty of Time to be Dead

In my opinion. If you have gone out and spent hundreds of pounds on a set of leathers and then decide to wear jeans, all for the sake of 30 seconds to put them on, maybe 2 minutes if your not the youngest . Your daft. It's a waste of money, and everyone knows how it can save your life.
Granted they don't make you invincible, but wouldn't you prefer to use the cows skin than your own?
I know I didn't pay £400 (and many others much more) to have them hanging up! |
