Ignore the above. I was insured on a GSXR600 at 18 with 1 years NCB for just under £500. It was a 1997 SRAD

R6 at 19/20, cost me about £350 to insure

it's a 1988 CBR 400 RR, without the points it would be between £400-£650

Well, I'm now 23, 7 points, insuring 2 bikes on 1 policy (2005 ZX6r, 2004 CRF250) for £350. Can't be that much different, although I guess the 5 years NCB helps.

what irritates me was the previous owner got insured for £650 with 8 points, just past his test after a disqualification, and lives in Bracknell Confused

I'm 18 and just renewed my insurance today on a honda hornet, £287 with 2 years no claims bonus. For me to insure a 2000 plate ninja 600 it is £1,100 but to insure a 1997 plate ninia 750 it is £340

there is no logic with insurance, it's just luck of the draw.

Was 18 at time of taking insurance out, £650 on a SV650. Can get insured on a TLS for £690.

Anything sporty is over £1600.

I've got no hope in hell of insuring either of those at 18, that was before my accident.

Now I'm looking at being 22-24 with no more accidents before I can afford to insure that kind of bike.

I insured my first 3 bikes (CBR400s x2, and VFR400) for around £500 each. At 17 and 18 years old.

Postcodes are and were ME7, and ME5. So they are grade C and D*.

3 points CBR and VFR policy. I got another 3 points on the TLR1000 doing 158mph on the M4 in Wiltshire, taking it up to 6 points.
And still insured the TLR again when I was 20 for under 500 quid.

Companies I went with were MCE, and Express.

They're always insured in a brick built garage, alarmed and ground anchored though (Which they actually are).

Hence the reason I chose that over an R6.

Way cooler too. Twisted Evil

17 - suzuki en 125 - £350
17 Yamaha Thundercat 600 - £800
19 renewal on Tcat £1700
Replaced with a 05 kawasaki z750, £750
19, current insurance, 03 Triumph Daytona 600 £800 but, if I had waited 10 days till end of month it was £650 Sad
If you can, always wait till the end of the month. I can save 20% on my car insurance doing that !!

Try TL1000S- 3 times cheaper than the R for me.
gsxr1100 from around 1996, after slingshot i think, £400 for me !! older n younger models are 3k though
Yamaha Thunderace (old r1) £650
1200 bandit £550
cbr600 pre-injection around £650
VTR1000 £700

Just try something a little odd/less popular.
I think if i was starting again Id get a bandit 600 and customise it a little for at least the first year then move onto something else. Funest bike for me was the z750, thundercat was most practical (very comfortable, decent mpg, decent performance) daytona is fastest by far but less fun.
If your not doing serious commuting get a naked bike, i think they are much better but wasnt ideal for daily motorway trips.

Cat C postcode too according to that link.

edit: ninjas, r6, gsxr 600/750 still around £1400 with ninja cheapest at 1200

with all my current details..

17 year old / 1 year no claims/ no convictions or claims.

it would cost me 8000 to insure a bandit
9000 to insure a gsxr
no one will insure me on an r6
no one will insure me on an xj6
6000 odd to insure a sv650

but if i changed my details to 18 and 2 years no claims, it would cost me 6500 to insure a yamaha xj6
