For a mk2 Bandit 12 front brake rebuild.

The wemoto kit is £55 plus delivery. OE seal kit is ~£100.. Shocked

Anyone used the pattern seals successfully?

Thanks

How many miles have the original seals done?

Are the seals worn or split?

More often than not I have just cleaned up the existing seals and after a thorough clean of the calipers, rebuilt everything and as good as new.If there is considerable corrosion in the ring lands of the calipers then replacing the seals might be an idea, but not necessarily a must.

I was looking into rebuilding a set of these and a main factor i read why they seized more often than most was the fact that the two inner faces of the caliper is un painted and oxidizes i think the word is.

therfore the seals would seize, wether or not this is true i dont know so if you have them apart id give em a clean and coat in some laqure or pain.

Probably original, so 14k over 7 years.

I'm not in the position to strip first then start ordering parts as I use my bike nigh on every day.

I have reused seals which were over 25k miles old and they still worked perfectly after a rebuild.

But if you at least had a new set from Wemoto then if you do not need them you will have a new set for when needed. After all,14k miles is not very much unless the pistons are so severely corroded in place as for the dust seal to be forced out between the caliper and the piston.I have seen this on calipers which had been sadly neglected and the owner paid the price by having to replace all of the seals where only OEM seals were available.

Borrow the sixpotters off my bike if you want for a week whilst you get yours rebuilt. Alternatively, look out for some blue spot 4-pot calipers and junk the 6-pot rubbish.

You can reuse, but you need to be uber-careful getting them out.

Given that brakes are pretty important, it's a small price to pay for ongoing reliability and peace of mind. It only takes one seal to go and you've got no front brakes.

They come out and go back in very easily, and they are a chunky seal so not really easy to hurt. Done mine a couple of times.

The biggest problem I've found is the groove builds up with corrosion, sometimes millimetres deep in the bottom. The dust seals don't really do much and the bare ally is easily rotted by road salt.

A pick is the proper tool but you can use anything thin and pointy but not too sharp. Run the tool around one side of the seal to un-stick it, then do the other side, then pull out a little loop of seal and draw it around out of the groove.

Check other sources for the seals. From memory both Suzuki GSXR1300 and Kawasaki ZX12R use the same 6 pot calipers (and think they are the same as the Bandit), and the seals are quite a bit cheaper from Kawasaki.

All the best

Yes, and Kawasaki sell them singly whereas Suzuki will only sell a set.
