What Micheal Bay has tried to do, within certain Hollywood restrictions no doubt, is try to stick the the comic book Batman much closer than any of his predecesors have done, and in that he did a good job.
I'm not saying he has stuck to any of the actual plot lines or script from the comic books, but the feel of the recent films has reflected the comic much more than any of the others did.
The original Batman film (Micheal Keaton) was a good starting point, if a little cheesy, but was ruined by any of the following ones you care to mention.
Begins, DK, and Rises stick very much more to the grim 'reality' of Batman's world.
Though quite why they didnt just make Knightfall the way it was writtn in the books is beyond me ____________________ You will become my force of retribution. Where you tread, doom will follow. Go now and claim your destiny |

You mean Chris Nolan. And he comes more from the intellectual semi-arthouse tradition (Memento, Inception) than from summer blockbuster explosion-fest like Bay.
I think Chris is hewing closer to the 80s / 90s Batman graphic novels than the 60s comic books / serials. Much grittier than biff / pow / bang. The old 60s Batman was cheesy beyond belief, not much more than episodic comic relief. The one that sticks in my mind is the unlikelihood of shark repellent on the utility belt. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

This is the generation of everything is amazing and no body cares. It doesn't matter if you are an old fuck or not.
It seems no matter what actually appears on screen, people in large numbers will try to pick the entire thing apart, piece by piece.
People set up websites, blogs, tweets, facebook pages...all with their own version of whining.
We understand film now, how it's made, how CGI isn't as good as making it out of real 'stuff' and how that guys voice really annoys you. The 'movie magic' isn't so obtainable anymore.
I can remember, not so long ago, people used to watch endless hours of films that had plot holes bigger than the death star and actors who seem to only be cast because of hair and teeth. They are 'classic' now.
I've watched Prometheus recently and really enjoyed it but i was made to feel like i shouldn't have.
One quote I stumbled on was something along the lines of...
"DID YOU EVEN SEE THE CESAREAN PART?! THAT WOULDN'T HAPPEN!!"
No it wouldn't, do i care, not really. It had me sat there with short breath as it unfolded...i knew it was a Sci Fi film and that's what i got. A couple of hours of things that probably will not happen, ever, with amazing visuals and action. Plus I did link it to the Alien films, I've been told i shouldn't and that i'm wrong. Apparently Ridley said it had nothing to do with it either, it sounds like complete shit to me but hey ho...
I've watched the making of some of these films too and the work alone that goes into some of these scenes of big hollywood action, is amazing!
I've dabbled with Adobe after effects, i've sat with friends and helped them write scripts, we've shot small scenes and as much as it's fun...i know to the outside world, it's all shit. Movie making is hard work, I've learned to appreciate that. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

I know how much work goes into making movies, I've seen enough making of's (one scene that springs to mind for some reason is from The Terminator, where they wanted the windscreen to be smashed realistically when Arnie punched it, so they had a metal fist on a pneumatic ram, then drove a truck made to look like the alley past the stationary car.... for a few seconds on screen it took weeks of filming).
My original point was that batman was a comic book character and they have tried to make it look more like a real life character with more believible gadgets and effects, that and a weak storyline (but everyone will lap it up because it's a sequel) |

Personally I prefer the darker style of the current Batman films. Begins was a little slow but I can forgive it since it was primarily a reboot of the series and set the scene for what was to come. DK was superb, some juicy twists and rock solid acting. Returns was decent enough but frankly Bane was never going to compare to Heath Ledger's Joker. The twist struck me as being comparatively pointless too.
Clearly this thread needs more Batman and Robin ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

Is this what the writers have been reduced to? weak storylines.... big explosions and catering to the dumb? |
Damn I've got to be according to you one of the dumb then
Oh also I haven't seen machinest or what ever it is called, there have been some good films out there with a decent story, It is just most people care about the action than the drama. You get enough stupid drama in the soaps, hardly any decent acting but you get the drama. |
Not just according to Andy, more like everyone.
Says the man who refuses to watch Heat or Goodfellas, Casino...list goes on and on, films full of epic story lines, films considered greats, films of greatness which you wont even considering watching.
Smiler, I really don't get you, you offer advice over something you have no experience of yourself, or it is advice you can't take yourself....you make no sense, you come across as if you know what you're on about, but you don't, how can you give advice to someone about films when you point blank refuse to watch some of the greatest films ever made.....Smiler, just got and get your fucking shinebox. ____________________ Stinkwheel: You have no right to free speech
