I can hit 20 in first, at 5-6k, an it feels like it needs an upshift. Certainlny doesn't fly to 60, like I'd hoped. I have hit 100 private road but it didn't seem as though it was going much past this - saying this, it was an insanely windy/rainy day and I was being a bit of a coward.

It doesn't feel especially faster than my restricted er5, bit disappointed. I know it's not a sports bike, so maybe this is normal.

If people can give me some sort of insight, don't want to embarrass myself taking it back to the dealer if it isn't restricted.

Does it go over 100.

Yes - Not restricted.

No - Restricted.

Go out on your bike.

IMO it should just be starting to wake up around there. Power peaks around 10k. I presume you're not just judging it by the sound, i.e. is it actually running out of puff?

My restricted ZZR6 hits an actual 100mph (in 4th gear and after quite a struggle).

sorry to state the obvious, but why not just pull the carbs and check for restriction washers?

Bandit mk2 carbs are a fuck fest to get off.

Because it's a new used bike (less than 100 miles since got it from dealer) - so why should I be tinkering with it? I will have them look at it, but I need something a bit more substantial than, "i think it might be restricted!"

I need to something to compare it to.

well, ask the dealer you bought it from. they should know if they serviced it or mot'd it prior to selling it.

also, tinkering with it you'd learn its querks for being taken apart and put together again.

From what you've described it definitely sounds restricted.

whilst not incredibly fast, the bandit should still be able to hit 125/130 indicated. if its not getting at least close to this, she be restricted.

At 5k revs in first gear, the throttle should be starting to get sensitive - sensitive enough that maintaining an exact speed and avoiding accidental acceleration requires very careful throttle control.

My ER6, which is geared slightly differently and has a slightly different power curve (power comes on a little sooner than most IL4 600s), will power wheelie if I quickly chop and reapply the throttle at those revs in 2nd gear, never mind 1st.

It sounds restricted or otherwise hobbled.

First time I got on a big bike while not under supervision of instructor and opened it up, it felt like I was going to topple off the back of the bike.

What do you mean by it feels like it needs to change up? Buzzy, or just power dropping away? I would expect in first even restricted it manages to keep producing torque long enough past 5~6k to easily accelerate up to double that speed.

If it just feels buzzy then that isn't really going to be restricted / full power related.

All the best

Keith

Go hop on the motorway, redline 4th and 5th gear. You will see past 100.

If you don't, then lol. It's either restricted or has my old bandit engine which is pretty much a parallel twin.

I found the bandit to have a relatively tame power delivery until I wrung it's neck, when it went a bit more like the scalded cat I expected. +1 for redline it and see what it does.

Because you think removing the carbs or getting it dyno'd is a "better" way of figuring out if it's restricted rather than just riding the thing and seeing if it will top 100 when revved harder? Laughing Eh?

defo sounds like its restricted. I had a bandit 600 MK2 on a restriction, then unrestricted, so i know what both feel like.

restriction has a more obvious affect on acceleration rather than top speed (although there is some). Unrestricted, my bandit would do 0-60 in 1 gear and about 3-4 seconds. Fully nailed.

Restricted, things are a lot more sluggish and the rev meter climbs a lot slower.

Obvious thing is to keep an eye out for a similar 600 and race 'em off the lights. Or just ask them quickly to floor it off the lights so you can compare (if you have enough time to explain at the lights).

Do you live anywhere near London?

If so I'll happily take it for a spin and let you know if it's restricted or not.
