PostPosted: 14:51 - 27 Dec 2012    Post subject: Service Reply with quote

My 2012 YBR has done 5,500 miles, done it's first service at 1,400 miles, changed brake pads and oil myself, I do around a 30mile round trip to work 5 days a week (someitmes 6) but cant afford another service untill the end of Jan.

My question is,

Do you think my bike will be ok until then ( i understand an exact yes or no cant be given)
I dont gun it everywhere i'm a cautious rider.

just due to christmas i've over spent slightly lol and cant really afford the 2nd service until then.

Many Thanks.

What exactly is in the second service? Should be in the manual right? If you can do everything mentioned, why don't you just do it?

What's your service interval. Mine is 600 then 2,500 after that. Bit annoyed about that especially as they seem to charge big bike prices for a CBF125.

2 year warranty means I'll sadly keep it up. 2500 approx every 4 months mean it's going to cost minimum £400 in servicing next year.

If I'm not keeping the bike then the next service, due soon will be it's last in my ownership, adding to resale, but as the wife wants to get experience to do her test I think it might be around a little while longer. In which case I'll look for an indie to do the work much cheaper.

Dunno, just keep on top of oil changes and chain tightening
I do my oil every 1k miles at least

There's really no need to take it to a garage

Servicing is what, changing air filter and oil, and brake pads? If they dont need changing which I doubt then brakes are fine.
Rest is a 5 minute job

Easy.

Get a Haynes and learn to do it yourself. Start with easy stuff like an oil change. Unless Yamaha have changed anything, service intervals on the YBR are every 3750 miles (6000km as they prefer metric) but round it up to 4000 miles for sanity (dealers do that too). Apart from the first one which as others have said is at 600 miles. I used to change the oil every 2000 miles as it's worked hard on a small air cooled single like this.

I punched YBR into my Googler and it returned the following results:

100km or 600 miles.
6000 km or 3500miles.
12000 km or 7000 miles.
18000 kn or 10500 miles.
24000 km or 14000 miles.

So you're between the 3500 miles interval and the 7000 mile interval which suggests you can wait until after New year/Valentine's Day.

Everything's scary at first, the more you do the more you'll learn and the more you'll enjoy it!
