strange coil fault

im not looking for advice as problem is sorted now but my ped started limiting at 4000rpm. After checking basics i put a timing light on and revved it on the centre stand and i was surprised it was losing spark repeatedly once revs got high enough and then spark would return once engine speed reduced.

On this machine the cdi control and coil are one unit, replacement was $70 nz.
Initially i thought it was a carb or fuel valve issue. I had wanted to simply pull the carb and dismantle it, but i adhered to my rule of always starting with the basics.

In summary just remember to start with the basics when you have an issue, once you start chasing items you suspect to be faulty you can influence other factors and possibly do needless work.

And im no ped boi, this is a nice commuting money saver, de restricted it does 40 mph. I rode it restricted for the first 5000km, so i could run it in well, then ditched the catalyst exhaust and fitted the "high speed" variator washer.

Once rebuilt a honda cb100 n,twenty years ago,had it all ready t fire,everything was right but it did nt start,swapped all ekectrics n switchgear.....still nothing,it had spark n everything,

ended up for theraputic reason smashing the tank in with a hammer for twenty minutes..then retired for a brew,

few days later was fixing this lads kwak two stroke.....explained to him importance of reassembling points n their special insulating washers,,,,,,,,then realised that without the tiny plastic insulator\washer......your points short out haha serves me right,
