How come you're looking at getting a new engine/head?
The GS500 as a bike hasn't really changed much over its life. I currently have forks from an earlier 90s E model on my 04 F model. The engine of the earlier models and the later models are very similar. I have an 04 F engine in the garage which I'm repairing for my bike and an engine from an earlier 90s E bike which I bought for spares.
A visual observation of the heads suggests that they're exactly the same and interchangeable. I cannot guarantee that it will fit however.
For a definite answer I'd head over to: https://gstwins.com/gsboard/
They seem to know virtually everything about the bike over there ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

What parts are missing?
Took a couple of days for mine to be approved too. But yeah, I believe that you can just interchange the engines between different years, but I'm not an expert on the subject ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

I had an early black engine model, fitted with a later silver engine. All the blocks are the same but you'll have fun trying to find a motor that's not got a cracked front mount & getting the old one off. Older black engines made a few more horsepower, externally they were the same.
My silverblock had the generator and LHS engine casing off the black un fitted. Shows they're all much the same ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
