Thanks to the bloody eurotwats I'm probably going to be in the following situation

CBT, Theory, Mod 1 passed but won't get my mod 2 done in time

I own a 125 and am over 24 but not flush with cash

So what are my options?

If I pass my mod 2 after 19th Jan I get a 125 license but at least I don't waste my theory and don't have to worry about CBT running out etc - yes?

The question I have is how do I upgrade this to a proper license and how many tests do I have to do? I assume I don't have to do a theory but do have to do mod 1 and 2 again on a 600cc bike

But I thought I read somewhere that there may be 'training' option after a certain time rather than 2 tests?

I think quite a few people are going to be in this situation

Sorry if its been covered elsewhere but there is so much on the 3DLD that I haven't got time to read all of it!

If you can decipher this it may help:

To my best understanding; passing your mod2 on the 125 mod1 will grant you only a 125 license, even after Jan 19th. However as you're 24 you could ditch it all and immediately go for the 'direct access' - unrestricted license for which you will need to do a mod1 and mod2 again on a larger bike (assuming your theory/ CBT is still valid, they last two years).

Cheers for the link
its pretty clear that under the accelerated access you can get the 125 ticket then upgrade to a larger bike later by just doing mod 1 and 2 within 6 months of each other as long as you are old enough, which I am by some considerable margin!

You don't have to do the CBT and theory junk again at least.

The last I heard about this was in 2010, when it was rejected by the DfT because of "cost" reasons. No, that makes no sense.

What category is on your Mod 1 pass certificate?

I'm on my phone, but YouTube Roadcraftnottingham Thumbs Up
He's done an excellent video explaining the new system.
If I remember correctly, you only need to do the mod 1 once, so it might be easier going for 125, then in the future paying for a hire bike for Mod 2
...
But din't hold me to that, check out the video Rolling Eyes

Roger have you heard anything about the combined tests, the one that they were after volunteers for before. Guessing its not going to go ahead as it would just complicate things.

Nope, and I'd expect the Sir Humphreys have killed it in committee.

Thanks for all the replys - but I managed to pass mod 2!

Got a cancellation.

Restricted license is mine and a real one in two years

So.....what bike!!!

I assume I have to inform my insurance company as I've taken the L's off the 125?

Nice.

You "can" let your insurers know you passed, but they may ask for admin/premium increase.

I wouldn't bother.

Big bike... you aiming for sporty stuff or anything else?

I managed to change my details online to full restricted A2 licence and I slipped in 'commuting' as well - no charge with Ebike Thumbs Up

And well done again on the pass - fancy going bike hunting in 2015? Wink
