So, today I bought a ZX7R, when I saw it, I couldn't resist it. It has some minor bugs like rear turn indicators, foot pegs and some rubber bits and scratches, but it works and looks great. Well, there is paint in the tank, I'm gonna have to wash that out, but other than that it's alright. I only tested the bike upto 120kph, since I'm noob to superbikes. My mate gave it some flat out miles on the way home and said it was powerful enough with very good stability. So, I think it'll be alright. I'm gonna check some things anyway, as always, just to be sure it's safe to ride. There is some rust on headers and rear spring, but nothing major. Here it is for 37k CZK / 1233.33 GBP

Congratz!

I'm loving mine at the moment. They're a little heavy at slow speeds at first but you'll get used to it.

I think you've got the European projector lights, get some HIDS in them ASAP. They look super cool on those lamps Thumbs Up

Well, the rear tire is, I'd say alright, but some would already change it and the screen is a bit off, I'm gonna put an original piece there. This screen is too dark to see through. The front tire is nearly brand new.

The only two things that I'm a bit concerned about is the rear shock and the exhaust. The rear shock is easy and cheap to fix, but the exhaust can get pricey. I'm gonna make some photos of those parts tomorrow. The rear shock works alright, I think and there's no leakage from the exhaust. I'm gonna clean the exhaust and paint it with some preservative coating, just to extend its lifetime and then maybe get a new one.

I still can not believe how a '96 road bike can get rusty. I had '88 GPz550 after a man that never heard of maintenance, at all and there was no rust. Kawasaki got cheap Thumbs Down

Out of interest, how much is it to insure where you are? Do you even need insurance?

Yes, the law says you shall have mandatory insurance, it only covers the damage that you cause with your vehicle, you crash other vehicles or crash road constructions, signs, guardrail and so on. When someone ruins your day, the recompense is payed according to a chart the law provides, if you feel you got less money for your ruined vehicle, you can sue the offender. If you had no insurance and that is possible, some people forget to insure their vehicles when they transfer ownership to themselves, then you'll be fully responsible for the damage and you're gonna pay from your own pocket, which can get quite pricey pretty soon.

ZX7R is in 500cc+ group that makes here about 3100CZK / 103.59GBP per year. I'm gonna pay about 2600CZK / 88.86GBP per year. I was inssured for 4 yrs now and had no insured event so I've got some bonuses.
My mate pays 2000CZK / 66.89GBP on his '98 Fireblade.

Today, I went to my insurance company, told them to give me the cheapest insurance they could provide to me and I'm gonna pay 1572CZK / 52.75GBP per year. I was so surprised that I had to tell this to my mate who actually told me, he got changed the conditions of his insurance contract and now he's on 1386CZK / 46.51GBP per year on '98 Fireblade, I mean, give me a break, I payed 63.75GBP on the NC27 I had. Mad
Anyway, I'm gonna pay even less then a half of the base rate, that is 3152CZK / 105.77GBP per year. I just thought I'd share a few numbers with you. Smile

Out of interest, how old are you and how long have you been riding?

Insurance in the UK is a lot more expensive!

Does that policy cover fire and theft? (e.g. if it gets stolen or catches fire does the insurance pay out?)

I am 23, riding on my own rockets about 4 yrs. The insurance only covers the damage you cause with your vehicle when you crash into something or someone. I am covered upto 1,006,711.41GBP for material damage and the same amount for health damage I could cause with my motorcycle to others. So, the company could possibly pay for my mistake (one accident) about 2 milion pounds. I got bonuses for those 4 yrs with no insured even, loyalty bonus and ''trust'' bonus. The last one means that I pay them less money and if I crash into someone, I shall pay them the difference of the bonus and standard rate.

Quote:

EDIT: It is not that cheap, according to many researches, Czech car/motorcycle insurance is the most expensive one in EU. The companies collect way more then they give back/offer and it covers only your mistake whilst riding/driving IF you cause damage on health and property of someone else, property of the State and city is included. I think you get the whole package in the UK and that's why it's so expensive there. I mean sctratches, flames and so on.

The company I'm with covers also me/my motorcycle against natural disasters/causes = floods, storms, lightning, hail and so on. I live in city where has never been flood, nor any other disasters, that's why they include this into their offer.

I saw a review of '96 ZX7R in MCN and they said it was in 16/17 insurance group. That sounds quite expensive. Smile

But, as I've mentioned, Czech mandatory insurance does not cover it all. If someone steals your bike, destroys it with a hammer, sets it on fire and so on, you're not gonna get a penny. If you want money, sue Thumbs Up

I park it in private garage and when I park it outside (day time only), none of my motorcycles nor my mate's bikes got vandalised or knocked over. People here have some respect to other's parked cars and motorcycles. I mean, motorcycles and cars get stolen but there's nothing like in the UK, where bunch of kids steal your bike/car, have a fun and then set it on fire. Here, vandals get caught quite soon, common type: drunken idiot on the way home from the pub.

EDIT: Most of stolen bikes are from ''garage-jobs''. Bunch of fuckers with a van clean up your garage. My neighbour had visitors the other day. Me and mate were lucky those idiost couldn't get into our garage, the lock was the same but way way more rusty, so they couldn't get in. Laughing We already got a security ''impenetrable'' lock. Thumbs Up
