Ok I am back again.

The bike finally gave up a few days ago, would not start at all. Same things as I originally posted above.

Went out on Wednesday morning, nothing, ignition on couple of click when pressing the starter and that was it.

I went for the battery first and replaced it, fully charged started with 1 press of the button. Cool!

But wait, went out next morning and turned a couple of times but would not start.

Ok, so put trickle charger on for a few hours, started first time.

So it seems to be ok with starting with a fully charged battery but give it an hour or so and it's sluggish but might start to a couple of hours and all it does is click...click...click...

Battery voltages are all good, I keep checking them, there is no major drain anywhere.

So Starter just being sticky and need max power to start or regulator/rectifier?

Or something else

Going by the readings on the other thread you've got a knackered battery that won't hold a charge as it starts straight away on a jump start and with your freshly charged battery. If the battery has been fully charged and will start the bike and the following morning it won't what is it's voltage reading then?? You need it load testing to make sure of it's condition but pound to a pinch it's shaggged and not a starter or reg/rec problem.

Have you checked the battery drain?

Set your meter to DC amps and put one probe on the - stud terminal on the battery and the other multimeter probe on the - lead/bike harness.

Anything above 50mA is meant to be concerning.

I rekon startor could be shagged though.

Maybe check the terminals on the starter solenoid (as opposed to the starter motor) as the clicking will be coming from there. The clicking is actually the solenoid firing and releasing rapidly.

Most likely the battery is duff, and as soon as it is put under load the voltage sags so much that it causes the starter solenoid to cut out. Off comes the load, the voltage rises and since your thumb is still on the button the solenoid fires again. This oscillation will be the clicking noise. When the battery is freshly charged the voltage on the plates will stay high, hence reliable starting. As that fresh voltage dies off you can't start.

I'd check the battery drain with the ignition off and if you have man enough multimeter check that there is current actually going into the battery. Make sure the bike is running first though, if you try and start the bike with through an multimeter in amps mode things will get melty very quickly!

As I said, I put in a brand new battery which was fully charged, that started it no problem, only after lying for a while would it then not start.

I will put the meter on it again in the morning and see what happens, will post the readings.

Old Thread Alert!
