Sell it and buy a 125.
Burn it and buy a 125.
Dissolve it in acid and buy a 125.
Crush it and buy a 125.
Eat it and buy a 125.
Insert it into your anus and buy a 125.
Leave it out to get stolen and buy a 125.
Moped mayhem it and buy a 125.
Perform nuclear fusion with it and buy a 125.
Grind it into dust, snort it and buy a 125.
Give it to Oxfam and buy a 125.
Beat it with hammers and buy a 125.
Stick it in an Iceland freezer and buy a 125.
Fill it with expanding foam and buy a 125.
Cast it in bronze and buy a 125.
Paint it pink and ride it through bible belt USA and buy a 125.
Farm squirrels in it and buy a 125.
Sell it as a 1:1 scale airfix kit and buy a 125.
Sink it in concrete and buy a 125.
Dump it in the sea and buy a 125.

Any of those would be a better idea than gaying around with a gayped.

I've no idea perhaps ask them?
What's the bike and is it worth doing? Wouldn't it be easier to sell the 50 and buy a 125 sparing yourself the added insurance hassle and registration problems?

If its anything like the car IVA then i think it works on a points system. I think an engine change is 3 points, chassis is 6. Anything over 6 needs an sva.

I think its something like that

Why not contact the DVLA for a definitive answer?

This in your OP would have saved you the understandable flippant replies.

IMHO you would be better of breaking both for spares (unless you can find a frame with a V5 for the 125) selling the bits and purchasing a 125

However, if you can find a 'quality' welder (not a mate that just happens to own the kit) He will charge you far, far less to weld the frame than hassle and an unrealistic insurance premium will cost you.

Defanition of a 'Moped' under C&U regs is pretty bludy strict.
less than 50cc and depending on age, slower than 35, or 32mph, may have to have pedals that can propell the back wheel.

ANY change the bike that takes its construction or performance outside those defined under C&U regs when registered, would technically require re-registration & VOSA inspection.

The 'points' system normally applied to a modified vehicle is irrelevent; soon as you mod a moped, its probably no longer a moped; hence requires re-reg under new vehicle type.

VOSA inspection, and re-registration, is as far as I know at least £350. Ecconomically , its probably not even worth contemplating.

As accademic excersize; its frought. C&U regs for mopeds, very tight on the performance criteria; if made since 1977, it MUST NOT be capable of more than 35mph..... other regs, like brakes, lights, tyres, are a lot more lax. 'Moped' tyres for instance dont have to be speed-rated, you can use push-bike tyres; and they dont have to have minimum tread depth, merely 'visible'.

So entirely possible a bike that has passed an MOT as a 'moped' put in for an MOT as a 'motorbike' would fail on the tighter requirements for a motorbike... and THEN you have the 'single-vehicle' regs to worry about. Buy a Brand-New Land-Rover Defender in the show-room, it would FAIL SVA inspection, becouse of 'grandad-rights' granted to some parts used in its construction, from when it was first put into service on the UK roads, but no longer meet current C&U regs or tighter SVA regs.

Thats the long answer, for "It just ent worth it! - Buy a 125 if you want a 125" There's absolutely NO advantage to trying to mod a moped, and every difficulty and dissadvantage you can imagine. SIMPLY becouse its a completely different 'class' of vehicle under law.

Be like trying to re-register a Volvo articularted lorry without the trailer as a Private Light Goods Vehicle.

The new AM ped license only allows up to 45kph =~ 28mph. Every year, they squeeze a little harder. Sad

Anyway OP, do it for love, but for the love of sweet BabyJesus, understand that swapping an engine will cost you a fuckton[*] more money than trading bikes.

[*] metric or Imperial.
