honda vision wont start/run

ive just bought 2 honda visions and they both seem to have the same problem. When i try to start them they just turn over. If i cover the carb inlet with 2 fingers they will fire up and run but as soon as i take my fingers away they will slowly die. Also when i remove my fingers loads of fuel pours out of the carb inlet?
They have been stood for about 12 years and ive cleaned the carbs and changed the fuel.

Any ideas?

Have you checked the choke? Don't know how it's set up on these, but that would suggest to me that the choke isn't working, hence it runs when you cover it over.

I may be wrong (probably am), but it's worth checking.

If they are both doing the same, it may be that you are incorrectly operating whatever choke mechanism is on that.

i was thinking it might be the choke. its electric in these.

any ideas on how to check if its working?
