Sounds like a loose/broken connection. Buy a multimeter - they aren't expensive.

It could indeed be a faulty earth but how can you check unless you can measure voltage both across the headlight bulb connector and then across a known good earth and the bulb connector?

The other lights are working. It's only the headlight itself.

Before I had a multi-meter I just connected a couple of wires to the battery for testing purposes.

I've improvised with a bulb and a couple of lengths of wire when I've been stuck without my meter. Thumbs Up
