If it helps my Haynes manual for the CG says that the possible causes for the engine dying after running for a short while is:
#1 - Blocked air hole in the fuel filler cap. If it is blocked it could possibly cause a vacuum effect in the tank that prevents any more fuel from flowing to the carb. Probably a good way to see if this is the issue just run the bike for a while with the fuel cap removed to see if the same problem occurs. If it is that I'd just blow some air through the hole to make sure it is unblocked.
or
#2 - Dirt or water in the carb. There could be some crap in the float bowl or even in the tank itself that is getting dragged through and killing the engine. It wouldn't surprise me if like you said the bike had been stood for a few months. Clean the carb out, clear the jets and maybe consider getting some fresh fuel in there. Also check the tank for rust and other crap floating around as that will not help things if they get pulled through the system. Maybe the fuel filter in the petrol tap is getting blocked so give that a clean just to be sure.
Also one more thing, check the air filter and the idle settings as that could play a part.
I did have this problem on my BR-J a couple of months back, it would die after a few minutes idling, which was pain if I was sat waiting in traffic and I'd have to kickstart the bugger ASAP to get going again. I just twiddled with the idle settings until I was happy and chucked some Redex in the tank to see if that would help and so far I have been fine.
