im having an issue in bleeding the brakes.

the weathers gorgeous and im pretty desperate to get out.

i've opened the MC, cleared it of its existing fluid, poured in dot4, and started to pump. been doing so for about 35 minutes now. each time i try and open the bleed nipple, nothing comes out. i was worried fluid wasnt reaching the calipers, so i opened the banjo bolt and fluid is definitely there.

any ideas? or anyone in the glasgow area willing to help? will pay if necessary!

I didn't think you were supposed to clear the MC ? I thought you just topped it up and filtered the old stuff through with the new until it was clear. Possibly the problem is that air got into the lines via MC?

it had to be a dry bleed regardless, i'd just had the calipers taken in for a refurb, so whilst they were off the fluid had been pissing into a bucket anyway, but when i opened the reservoir there was some grime, so saw it best just to take it all out and start again.

its getting to me big time as the weathers almost gone now and its back to work tomorrow!

its air locked ... put a clear plastic pipe on the open bleed nipple, top up the master cylinder to the brim.. pump the lever and suck on the pipe at the same time...
PS. brake fluid tastes horrible.. you will get some in your mouth.

Isn't there a method of filling them from the calliper instead? Think you need one of those bleeding kit hand pump things though

I always start from an empty m/c and back fill from the calipers using a large plastic syringe.

It's really a two man job. One person mans the syringe and the bleed nipples, the other keeps the m/c level down using another syringe.

Once done, bleed the banjos, and bleed the nipples again.

Time required: Half an hour.

Just a large syringe from Ebay and the correct diameter tubing.

Good to know thanks Thumbs Up

How do you bleed the banjo bolts? Same as normal bleeding?

Fasten everything up, wrap rags around the banjos, then crack them open slightly while applying lever pressure. Do them individually. Throw the rags away.

First time bleeding brakes? Are you holding the lever back to the bar at the same time you undo the bleed nipple? You might not get any fluid initially, probably just air, but if you keep going you should eventually get fluid through.

Apologies if you're already doing it this way! Over the internet it's a case of "Not sure if full potato". Thumbs Up Laughing

That will work, I had to do it on my XR. Be warned, there is no warning what so ever you will just have a load of brake fluid in your mouth and it is one of the worst tastes I have ever tasted. But you will have working brakes. Mine was fine from that day on! Let us know how it went!

Should have learnt not to mess with the most fundamental part of the bike unless he knew what he was doing Thumbs Up

Not without having a backup plan.

I tackle what I can with mechanics. What I can't do, I enlist someone that can help, but I'm never without my bike/car as I've fiddled too far beyond my own skill Thumbs Up

don`t think he has the luxury of a second vehicle as a back-up plan.

This is my bleeding thread . Lots of suggestions and turns out my problem was with the lever. It was still pushing the MC piston even when released. You could try that Thumbs Up
