I just got rozzered today and after the biker cop inspected my bike. He said the following. Clean mirrors and insert baffle back into my exhaust. He also said that me not having a chain guard is a 3 points offence, and advised me to fit it back on.

So was he bs'ing about no chain guard = 3 points?

Please put both of your hands into your moving chain. It will stop you posting shit and also stop you riding.

3 points are normaly accompanied by an endorsable fixed penalty ticket so it could be that there is a ticketable offence for having something that could be classed as unsafe or un road worthy.

Not everyone gets the benefit of a 'warning' so you might be considered lucky. Some get hammered straight off

Points are for traffic offences not the condition of your vehicle.

My chain is not guarded either because when I got the bike it was dented and fouling the chain. I took it off and got an advisory on the MOT. Keep meaning to search out a new one, but as yet, haven't.

Does anyone have a reference to a Construction and Use offence for this? Never heard of it being illegal, but would agree that if my chain was to break, kittens may be greviously injured.

This can't be entirely true, you can get 3 points for every tyre under the limit

No chain guard required. Regardless of pillion pegs or not.

Aye, code CU20 from the info you provided looks a fair bet, defective parts???

Bald tyres, missing mirrors etc etc etc. I suppose that means most of the things checked for an MOT, ie road worthyness

that list only has points against particular codes, CU20 not being one of them, it may be an offence but not an endorseable offence, but the list may not be accurate, as the 3 points per tyre sounds true and its not on the list

https://www.gov.uk/penalty-points-endorsements/endorsement-codes-and-penalty-points

See here for the .gov guidelines. CU30 looks like the relevant point for tyres.

I snapped one of the heads of the bolts holding the guard. I need to buy a drill to get it out. It was in hackney btw, it was some big guy (white) near dalston junction rail station, i think he was doing laps of the area because I came across him several times in that area that day.

Just came across this thread. https://www.rgv250.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/49345-london-police-
3-points-a-fine-for-no-chainguard/

quote from thread

I imagine he was referring to this...

Construction & Use Offences: CU20 Causing or likely to cause danger by reason of use of unsuitable vehicle or using a vehicle with parts or accessories (excluding brakes, steering or tyres) in a dangerous condition.

Seems like its london police who are enforcing this Sad. Looks like I have to do a temp fix for my chain guard with my trusty gorilla tap and cable ties/ notify a few mates.

That's the catch all offence under Construction and Use usually referred to as "dangerous parts", it's usually used for such things as insecure/rotten/damaged body work that could injure someone, you could stretch it to cover a missing chainguard.

This is all getting rather silly now little boy. This has as much a basis in reality as your imaginary Snap-On tool kit or your great idea of fitting tyres by putting petrol in them and lighting it.

Please stop, I'm embarrassed for you.
