https://www.powerplane.co.uk/case-studies/m27-concrete-retexturing-mac-area-3

Following the above work, where they milled the surface longitudinally, not transversely as specified in the Highways Agency documents, the M27 between J7 and J5 now has a 'tram-lining' surface, the deep/wide groove left by a mis-set milling head is clearly visible when dry, but invisible after heavy rain, which doesn't drain as well either.

EnterpriseMouchel are supposed to 'maintain' the road in a safe state, but profit above safety seems to be what's driven this. The off slip at J5 West bound is particularly bad, with the milling machine leaving criss-crossed curved grooves that change direction and make a bike very twitchy, my Land-Rover is also affected, its THAT bad!

The other effect was to mash the slab edges, so the overbanding is now 4" wide, not a nice 10mm filled slot...

They intend to push this out as an answer to 'polished' concrete nation wide, so if anyone is able to high-light the dangers to the H.A. of allowing it, rather than doing it transversely, please do so.

Took a close look at this last night (in the car). Your right quite a deep gulley on all 3 lanes where one of the grinding heads is set too deep. Think I'll use the backroad upto the m3 in the wet on the bike!
Thanks for the heads up!

The M27 has been pretty poor for a while now. I used to commute down the section and filtering between lanes 2 and 3 is pretty hairy due to the 'hump' between lanes.

Do you know the date the work was carried out?

I hit a pothole in August. Reported it twice and it got filled in Feb.

Like a thunderbolt from the heavens.
