1997 R reg Honda CBR900RR Fireblade 918

Totally 100% original and mint. Only addition is an ART race can. Dyno print for 118bhp at the rear wheel so quite a healthy bike.

https://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j303/330paul/blade/blade1_zps445e5d8a.jpg

https://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j303/330paul/blade/blade2_zps0be7d524.jpg

Never ridden one, so have no idea what I am in for. Apparantly quite twitchy with the 16" front wheel so something I will have to adjust to. Hence Saturday (and Sunday) I will be riding like miss daisy.

There is so much history with my bike, excellent to see it so well maintained.

Looking forward to getting it on Friday.

Just got to sell my fzr600 now as I don't have the garage room and I need to recoup some readies!!

Hopefully I will get on with it as I have done a bit of research on the 918 and there is a lot of praise for the bike.

how many miles?

Looks quite clean, nice one!

Things to point out that i've noticed from mine:

Reg/rec went. change it for an R1 one, not hard to do and a lot more reliable.

CCT, hondas have always been bad for them

watch for a dodgy 2nd gear too!

Awesome bikes though, insanely fast Thumbs Up

It has 22500 miles. I am an originality freak so there is no way on earth this is getting messed with at all. It will remain exactly as is.

I can 100% hand on heart say this is in mint condition, just perfect.

Regarding the reg/rec I am going to put a dedicated earth lead direct to the battery as has been recommended and also have been told to mount it on thermal paste. I have a load of it as I am a hardware engineer for Oracle (Sun) so have loads of syringes of the stuff.

If it detonates then I will go for the 01 R1 reg. I will check what it has though. Where does it live? Does anyone know where I might be able to get an online service and parts manual?

It has a big bundle of paperwork for servicing, invoices and a few dyno runs.

I love yellow (had a baby piss yellow E46 M3 years ago) so this really floats my boat.

If the Fireblade handles the same as a Hornet with a 16" front, then the whole '16" front wheel is twitchy' thing is a load of crap. I've had the 16" and 17" front on a Hornet and they handle the same, you just get more tyre choice with the 17. It was worked out on here the 16" front hardly drops the bike at all compared to the 17" because of the higher tyre profile.

Nice bike Thumbs Up

I've had my RRS for 6 years now, and it handles great. Same as any bike, make sure its well maintained and you will have no handling problems. Saying that, I have 17" wheel ready to go in, but thats purely because there is a very limited choice of tyres for the 16".

Cracking bike mate Thumbs Up

I beleive the cb500 reg/recs can be used and is worth buying one from ebay to chuck under the seat in case it pops. They are about 25.30 quid on ebay.

Much kudos for keeping it as original as possible Thumbs Up

Check your PM`s as well...

Thanks for the advice guys.

The reg/rec thing is a bit of a weakness isn't it Laughing . That said, this bike has so much paperwork that I have yet to go through as I don't get it until tomorrow that I am hoping this has been replaced with something more durable than the original cheese made one.

Looking forward to seeing what this bike is all about Thumbs Up .

Those crap pictures do not do it justice, it is utterly immaculate.

I have the 97 RRV too. RegRec went 3 years ago, got a replacement off eBay and have been fine since. Only 'failure' I have had was the live wire for the headlights getting worn where it passes through a small tube behind the clocks and began arcing and blowing the fuse.

Enjoy. Very easy to ride but will remind you from time to time that it will bite your backside when you get complacent.

Whilst the 16 inch front gives you the same ride height, it is lighter. IME is slaps around a little more, but not massively so.

I reckon it was more to do with journos of the time being used to barges like the GSXR1100. Apply the same amount of turning force to the Fireblade, and it probably would seem "twitchy" by comparison.

Similar things could be said of the TL1000S. How things change.

And here it is:
https://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j303/330paul/blade/all-together-bikes_zps6a647471.jpg

Got back, went to the bank to get some money to then meet my mate in Canterbury and it started hammering it down so I turned round and had to spend 20 minutes clearing a space in the garage.

I now officially cannot move in there so the FZR HAS TO GO!!!

So, initial impressions. I need to move the rear brake lever up a little to suit me and roll the indicator pod round a bit as the switches are just a little too far down to make it second nature. I have to look to the switch so that needs sorting.

So performance.......................................

OH MY FOOKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has clearly been fettled. The throttle is so quick acting. I sneezed (hayfever) and my hand slipped the throttle round in second gear and the bike went crazy :rolllaff: .

The turn in and response is so TZR like it is unreal. It looks big but it hides the size well in its riding manners and feels quite light. The brakes are very sharp but I know this will not be something I get used to very fast handling wise. Nice gearbox as well. This weekend will be all about learning what a proper old school fireblade is all about. I have much to learn.

Took some better pics at the weekend just before riding it a total of 402 miles. I fooking love this bike. Enough power to keep me (very) interested, balanced, comfortable, fun and I am now beginning to understand how to ride it cleanly through the twisties.

It's nice that. I looked at early blades a few years ago but ended up buying a C1 ZX9R.

It should spend more time on the road than in that garage given the owner Wink

Only moved to my house fairly recently and the garage is actually pretty tidy (and a nice place for it to live), just there is fuck all room since my wife got my last house and my pride and joy 20ft x 12ft man cave Thumbs Down . On the upside selling my wedding ring gave a healthy contribution to this Very Happy

Anyway, as Paddy says, this bike will be out and about getting a good seeing to regularly and I am going to get it even cleaner (if possible) than it is now.

Hopefully a forum member will be buying the FZR tonight to free up some room as well. Don't want to sell it but I need to be able to get the TZR out whenever I want to without a load of agro.

Fair enough Paul.

I just have an image in my head of that lovely bike sitting in the middle of a pristine garage surrounded by nothing other than a big red tool cabinet and a happy owner.

Can you tell i'm dreaming about getting a proper bike much.

Right that's it i'll be back in a mo' after booking my theory test.

Das, your fuckin next me ol' china.

Its all good now, the FZR went 30 minutes ago so the blade is sitting in the middle of the garage with a healthy space around it Thumbs Up

I might not have a big red tool chest but I am a happy owner Mr. Green
