alternator testing

I've got 2 alternators, 1 is grinding slightly inside (probably because it was stored in a dry shed for almost a year I guess ), and 1 has a cracked case. From what I remember I had to charge the battery manually for the zxr (but it could be that it never ran long enough to give a good charge).

So both are off the bike, no way of spinning them fast enough to make them work as they should, so with the aid of a multi-meter, is there a way I can test that at least 1 will charge the battery?

The only thing you're going to be able to test is the resistance of the windings. You'll need some numbers to test against too.
