hi, been having some problems with my bike 3weeks ago it starts but when placed in gear and go to pull away it stalls no matter if the side stand it up and amount of revs now theres nothing.

battery is good. when starter relay is bridged you can hear the starter motor trying to turn over, starter button is working so im guessing the fault is between the starter button and the starter relay.

can anyone help as i need the bike for work at the weekend, many thanks...

It'll be a dodgy switch in the safety interlock system. There are three, the clutch switch, the sidestand switch and the neutral switch.

Probably the sidestand switch, it's designed to cut out if you engage a gear with the stand down. If the switch is broken in such a way as the bike thinks the stand is still down, the engine will start in neutral cut-out as soon as you engage first.

A faulty clutch switch would prevent you using the starter in first with the clutch pulled in.

EDIT: Most of these problems can be bypassed by pulling the snap connector to the clutch switch apart and bridging between the two wires that are not light green.

ok thank you,

i am a complete novice to electrical schematics and problems though so are there any basic tips for me when testing them.

it hasnt been started for approx 2 weeks and it wont even attempt to start or turn over even thought there is plenty of charge in the battery.

many thanks

Make up your mind.

You said in your first post that it starts but stalls when put in gear.

Now you say it won't start at all?

Which is it?

Is the neutral light coming on?

im sorry for not making it clear.

neutral light will come on when ignition it turned on.

1) 3weeks ago it started to play up by allowing me to start the bike putting it into 1st but not allowing me to pull away (stalls)

2) havent started it for 2 weeks now went to start it as weather was improving and i could trouble shoot as to no.1 problem.

3) it will not start at all now have trickle charged battery over night its putting out 12.5v.

4) have looked at starter and kill switches both in working order, when i bridged starter relay i could hear the starter motor trying to work.

hope this is more clear now thanks for youre time.

It is almost certainly the safety interlock system.

Here's a wiring diagram of just the starter circuit.

EDIT: Also find the main fuse box and give it a thump. There is a microrelay in there that has to click before the solenoid can activate. Sometimes sticks.

hello again we've taken the lower part of the wiring loom apart (taken the electrical tape off) and found water soaking the wires and a naked live wire so dried it out and re-taped it and also stripped the fuse box and surprisingly there was water inside that as well. you said it could of been the microrelay in the switch fuse box that needs to click before anything else can happen not hearing anything so i guess ill have to buy a new fuse box unless i can get hold of another relay...
