alright boyo's

im trying to replace a seal on my CG genny plate thingy

https://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/mudcow007/20130316_170127_zps6de74261.jpg

(big round black thing on this pic)

any ideas how i can replace it (im guessing the new one will have to be driven in) without damaging the strator behind it?

to remove the old one can i just screw a screw into it an yank it out?

gracias

You should be able to carefully push it into place with your thumbs. It's not like a bearing, there's no great resistance, especially if you make sure the housing is greased before putting it in.

A large socket about the same size as the OD of the seal could be used as a drift, if it was necessary. But seals are easily damaged and you'd need to be very careful.

I'd probably just ping/lever the old one out with a big screwdriver then push the new one in with my thumbs.

If it won't push in, use the old one on top of it as a driver, or a bit of plastic water pipe the same size as the OD of the seal.

Did you change the large ''O'' ring as well? If not then it would probably be a good idea to do so whilst you have everything apart.

How bad a leak is it? Is it just as bad as it was before?

well...i refitted everything, refilled with oil.

kicked her over a few times - wouldn't start (i'm guessing because of the cold) an i noticed a dribble of oil through the flywheel

so im guessing if/ when it fires up the leak would get pretty messy

i will whip the flywheel off again an try to figure out where its leaking from

as radicalrabit says....is there a correct an wrong way for a seal to be fitted?

i fitted the new one as per the old one with the flat side facing out with the spring inside

The oil seal has been installed the wrong way around.
The ''spring'' side should be facing inwards towards the crank.

If you scroll down to Chapter 6, page no. 94 then you will see a picture of how the oil seal should be mounted within the stator plate:-
https://cpi.shs.net.pl/files/Poradnik%20warsztatowy%20Honda%20CG125%20(Workshop%20Manual).pdf
BTW Unless the oil seal that you have already installed is a very loose fit then you will probably knacker it during removal.

You can normally remove seals without damage if you're careful, especially given that it's only just gone in. If I had a quid for every time I've reused old seals, I would literally have enough money to buy a brand new seal Laughing

also, kinda have a bit of self doubt now, is it possible to fit the flywheel in the wrong position?

it has a woodruff (i think its called) key but i suppose ti could still be off?

You can't really put the flywheel on wrong. Or if you did, the bike wouldn't spark. No, looks like the issue is the seal being round the wrong way, hence the very large amount of oil leaking (normally you'd only get a small bit of seepage even under heavy use, if the seal had just worn normally).

Never trust anyone but yourself to do work. That's my motto.

Agreed. It's better to know what has been done to your own bike and also where the blame lies when it all goes wrong.

A mechanic has everyones bikes to worry about. You just have your own. Plus it's not as if it's the mechanic that snuffs it if you crash because it's been done wrong.

after running the bike last night idling for about 10mins i noticed there was a bit of oil on the o-ring on the selector shaft (i think its called - yellow pointer in pic)

https://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c81/mudcow007/20130327_220114_zps7c707aa3.jpg

i think i will see how bad it leaks, as it looks a ball ache to start removing that
