 Posted: 11:39 - 31 Mar 2013 Post subject: Looking into naked bikes...Cb600? |
 |
|
As title says, i've been looking into naked bikes as they are some of the very few styles i really like the look of. I'm not in a rush to get one as i havnt used the 535 enough yet (shit summer, shit winter and now shit spring). Basically looking for:
Budget up to £2300 max
Does at least 45mpg
Cheap insurance (for example my 535 costs £220 a year thats with no no claims, so looking for similar regarding insurance costs)
Been looking at the Cb600. Totally new to this type of bike, and as i understand it, all of them after year 2000 are fuel injected right? Are there many differences regarding performance/reliability between carbs and FI?
Also, when doing valve clearances do most of these kind of bikes require shims as apposed to the locking nut/screwdriver job i'm used to?
Lastly i've looked at SV650's but very few of them are without the fairing at the front. I much prefer the round (cruiser style) headlight, like this:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-SV-650-/300723851716?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item460489d1c4
Are they easy enough to convert like that?

If you look at SV's then get one that was made as a naked, they have a different riding position to the S models with lower pegs as well as the higher handlebars. My SV650S averaged 62 mpg over 3K miles and they do sound nice with plenty of popping on over run between 3-4.5K and even recorded a high of 78mpg (that was granny riding though, on a charity ride I ended up marshaling the 125's... Nice relaxing day really)
Add the Street Triple to your test ride list, just because
I have seen a lot said about Hornet's having a sub 100 mile tank range on here. |

Have you considered a CBF600? Old hornet "naked" shape with the new hornet "FI" rather than carb ____________________ Previous Ride's - '01 Aprilia SR125 (Sold) '08 HONDA CBF600n (Sold) '96 CB500 (Sold) '01 FZS 1000 (Sold) '06 CB1300SA (Sold) '07 CB600F Hornet (Sold) - '93 Suzuki Savage LS400 (Sold) '98 Honda VTR1000 Firestorm (Sold) '05 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '01 FZS1000 Fazer (Sold) 2016 Harley Davidson Street Bob SE (Sold) '02 Kawasaki ZX9R (Sold) '98 CB600F Hornet (Sold) '04 Suzuki Bandit 1200s (Sold) '13 Yamaha FZ1-N |

Bandit 600?
Significantly cheaper to insure than a hornet i found & also better on fuel. Mine costs £270 a year to insure TPFT, with ride other bikes, helmet and leathers, personal injury, legal cover, 30 days overseas and a load of other stuff i cant quite remember. Thats with 1 years NCB at 23 in a shit postcode, 3 points & a fault accident within the last year.
Also, as everyone seems to have one theres no hassle in finding parts on the shelf as and when you need em locally - they're also exeptionally easy to sell due to being popular. They come with a gay half fairing, or a round headlight & it takes approximately 30mins & £50 to convert it to a naked model. Very comfy, equally happy on the morning commute as the weekend rag around the lanes. Realy is the jack of all trades imo.
Avoid FI if at all possible as home mechanics become difficult, wiring becomes complex & at £400+ for a fuel pump in event of failiure it's all well and good till it breaks, Oil cooler hoses are prone to rotting & munching engines so check that they're in good shape & if rusty budget for changing em. Exhaust systems also rot like nobodys buisness at the join between link pipe & manifold. Can be repaired, but can also cost £250 for a new manifold if not dealt with in time.
£2k gets a low mileage minter.

The Blandit does nothing for me unfortunately, it just reminds me of the 'toy bike' you got in a cracker/cereal box as a kid ____________________ To shreds you say? Tss tss tss |

Eh?
Its a generic middleweight naked lol, looks wise its 90% the same as any of the others. I do sometimes wonder how much of the whole "blandit" thing is everyone on here chipping in to be cool & stuff - not an actual opinion based on owning, or even riding one for that matter!
Much like the "buy a YBR" and "dont de-restrict your moped" mob.
Definately avoid the hornet/cbf if looking for decent MPG as its a detuned CBR motor & thirsty.
