problem

my mate has bought a ts50 and it wont rev past 6k, even though it redlines at 9k

it has to be ragged in 1st to get to second where it struggles keeping going and you only get 3rd on a hill.

after attempting to clean the air filter i found it didnt have one so i sqauched a spare filter in of my other bike

what iv done

obv fitted a too big sponge in air box

cleaned out carb with tooth brush and petrol getting in any crevasse i can find. didn't take out any of the screws except the ones to open the carb

iv put all back together and same thing is happening just a little less. its more powerful but still doesn't have any bollox...

tried messing with air screw but iv got it to its optimum sound and its a little better.... any suggestions Smile

also i don't know anything about the bikes past...how do i check its its restricted in any way... please don't use words that a dumb ass (me) wont understand...will appreciate any help

Dunno what they're worth now (probably quite a lot in mint condition) but I think mine was £600, brand new in 1981.

When the other thread was started, I could've just about remembered exactly what you needed to do to get the best out of one, but now it's a bit hazy.

What I can say is, it was one of the most restricted 50s of it's time, as the other thread points out; wrong carb, wrong gearing, wrong exhaust, wrong porting.

Forget the red line, that was theoretical in standard tune, the only way you would ever get near it, was free revving in neutral.
