I've left the keys in the ignition and seat lock in the past... in the front garden in full view of anyone walking past. Unfortunately the bikes are always still there the next day.

When I was with the wife I'd always leave the keys in the ignition when the bike was in the garage, and there was a few times the door was unlocked by the kids and once it was even left open. Still never had a bike pinched (yet).

I have gone to work (in Easterhouse) and left car keys sitting on the passenger seat in full view. At the time I was working as a landscaper and thought they may have fallen out of my pocket and ended up buried under a couple of tons of soil. It was only when went to lock the car up until I got the spare key I found them

I've left my key in my bike in the back garden the last 5 times I've been out on it Embarassed Luckily, Mr Yaigi comes in after me, and usually greets me with a "Where are your bike keys ma lady?" Embarassed

I'm forever leaving my keys where I shouldn't.

In the ignition, swinging from the seat lock- outside the house & in the middle of a shopping centre in London . . on the floor all night next to the bike.
On the floor next to the bike at Mayday couple years back. Embarassed
(Nice biker caught me up and returned them. Thumbs Up )

Just this morning I left my flat thinking the keys to my daily hack were in my jacket pocket from yesterday . . . only to find them tucked into the door handle by my helpful neighbour who must have found them on the floor somewhere between my garage and my flat. Shocked

At least I'm not alone Laughing

I usually have the keys in my pocket, the ignition is in the side panel and doesn't lock in place, so i switch on and put them in my pocket, and vice versa for turning off. Guess i just put them down while throwing the cover over Rolling Eyes

Many times I've left for work to find my front door keys hanging out of the front door Embarassed

Used to do this, but if you lose them then you are proper fkd as you are locked out after you've had to walk home ! Thumbs Down

That and a bunch of keys will ruin a good looking top yoke in no time.

I've done it a few times. Including once on my RXS in the middle of possibly the worst estate in Chatham. I wasn't sure whether to be relieved or insulted when I returned having left the old girl for three hours to find the key in the ignition and the bike entirely unmolested. I do work hard to keep the 100 in a condition which makes it as unattractive to thieves as possible.

We've all been there in some way or another haha! Makes you over-cautious from there on out (if there is such a thing as over-cautious that is).

Have done it on my Hornet once. It's usually when I break my routine. On my NSR is was when I had to lift the seat. Numerous times I left it hanging there from the seat lock in the middle of town and it's been there when I've got back.

Maybe bike thieves like a challenge? Shocked

Honestly, with the amount of bikes out there with keys left in em, I'm amazed thieves are even bothering to break into places/snap steering locks etc. It's easy pickings if they just open their eyes haha!

I left mine as well.. but my bike was chained to an utility pole and left with the keys in the ignition for about 4 hours. Luckily I found the bike and keys exactly where I left them.

It can happen to anyone..

I used to have a terrible habit of leaving my key in the ignition and going off around morrisons to do some shopping. Luckily I live in a low crime area.

I do the same thing a lot with the audi too, god knows how I keep doing it!?

Thank goodness it's not just me. This thread has just made me feel massively better about the times I've done the same thing. Ignition and seat lock, I've done both. Last week I left the key in the ignition while I did a 12 hour shift at work. Luckily it was in a secure shed that's full of bikes and bicycles. I was still panicked when I realised what I'd done late on. We are a set of pillock aren't we? Very Happy
