I was just looking on ebay for some new tyres for my bike and i come across these https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2465139953&category=36796 .I've never seen these before and i thought they would look cheesy but i reckon they look well smart especially on the VTR in the pics. But i wonder how long they keep the colour for.

Shocked Nooooo - don't do it! Shocked
Been there - done that - got the road rash! Evil or Very Mad

Check out the pics on me web site, the CBR69 bit. There are pics of my bike with the red tyres... how long (NOT) they lasted... and the resulting damage caused by those crap tyres!

Hope it helps!

Leave these well alone - they ahve all the grip of a chunk of slightly warm plastic.

I bought some for the blade and never got round to fitting them.

The other thing about them is they are meant to have the colour all the way through but they don't.

From what i've heard they are not actually that bad but I would rather stick to something which I know and trust.

I just thought they look alright but i would never waist my money on something like that. With tyres its always best to go for the better known names as i have found out the hard way Crying or Very sad and thats what put me of ever buying some.

Just wondering what tyres do you lot go for and which ones have you found to be the best for wet and dry weather.

I'd heard they were absolutely pants, but that web site up there makes them sound pretty good, mind i don't like the sound of this.

Quote:
Tomahawk takes the carcasses of used tyres and applies an entirely new outer to it. The tread is applied in exactly the same way as on new tyres and 'cooked' on to the inner carcass.

Recycled tyres? sounds highly shady to me. Personally i'd get a set stricly for show purposes, not for riding on. And the ones on that vtr definitely have a plasticy shine to them, like that on a toy peddle cars. The others i've seen don't look much better, cant find a pic but they are coloured in between the tread of the tire, painted i think, and the tire is black in general.

Other thing is, if you did a burn out would the smoke be red?

I used to run Konkorde remoulds on my ZX9, they were fab in the dry and I did loads of track days on 'em, then I discovered why the journos didn't like them.

Cornering under a steady throttle, more grip than I could use and no problems, a little too much gas and away they went, no warning just a bike up the track.... never again Confused

Well I have never seen coloured tyres before and to be honest, I wish to never see them again, truly dreadful!

All to their own though. Smile

No offence to anyone who said they've fallen off when using these tires but do you know you wouldn't have fallen off on normal tires? I don't see the problem with used carcasses, it's not like the company are going to use dodgy or dangerous old tires are they? If the carcass is fine I don't see the problem having new rubber molded to the outside of them, it's done in the same way they are made in the first place so I don't see a problem there?

It doesn't seem like the journos hate them that much either?

https://www.tomahawktiresltd.com/cycleart/article-1.htm

To be honest seeing as they're so cheap I’d give them a try but that’s just me. Thumbs Up

RiDE mag tested some recently and they had problems with the tread de-laminating. At high speed.

More than a few readers reported similar troubles...

No thanks. Confused

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The big tyre manufacturers spend millions on R&D

starting with the carcass which these guys ar eusing again - fair enough

but then compounds and tread patterns for wet use

I don't believe the remould guys have anything like the correct experience in amterials research to get the compound either stable grip levels across a wide temperature range or stable bonded to the carcass

OK for dicking about on but anything serious forget it

Thanks! I know its a bit self-indulgent to have pics of your bikes on the net but it keeps me happy! Smile

None taken but since fitting them they never offered any confidence and the front warned me a few times before finally giving up and tucking. And although the carcass IS probably sound the rubber they coat it with is far from it. I think as someone else said it feels like plastic NOT rubber and from my personal experience there's no consistency. As you can see from my website pics, the rear wore out inside 2 weeks and the front was barely touched yet BOTH were supposed to be the 'road' version.

These are SHOW tyres only (IMHO) and I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from trying to corner with any kinda aggression cos they will cost you loads on broken plastics.

Hi,
I think these tyres are really cool.
I would love a pair for my GPZ500s.
Anybody know where to buy them ?
Does anybody know if they can be used safely for riding hard (GPZ500S Dont laugh to loud!), or are they only really meant for show bikes ?
Hope someone can give me a confident answer.
Many thanks

they look wank new, they look worse worn and from the sounds of things they dont grip too well!

https://www.ac-hills.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/cbr_6_9.htm

that together with the fact ive never seen anyone with them riding in anger or at a track indicates that they are not to be trusted.
