evening!

i've done a quick search and the only one i've found was from 2008. my car test is less than a fortnight away, so i've been looking into getting a cheap runaround car, so's i can spend more on buying a new bike in time for summer.

i work in a car dealer, and decided to ask the manager if any semi-decent cars that were too old for sale (thus going to auction) came up, to give's a shout.

today he gave me keys to a Renault Megane, 1.4, 122k miles on the clock, and wanted £600 for it.

the thing was a shed, so many problems with it.

later in the day though, he's approached me with one of these :

https://i1263.photobucket.com/albums/ii639/bravocharlie1/Rover-45-1999-2003-Photo-01_zps862d1611.jpg

1.4 Rover 45, 2003, 55k miles, taxed and tested till november, £500.

it were owned by a Snobby fella who's opted for an insignia now and it's in good nick.

i know it's not the coolest of cars but i may take it.

Anyhow, it's got me asking, what were your first cars, and can you recommend anything to me?

Haha my first car was a C reg Escort that my Dad bought from an auction for £50 (I kid you not). He fixed a couple of things on it and said "When you break that I'll get you something else". It was a total rust bucket, still had a manual choke, and leaked in places. So I'd say, your first car looks a whole lot better than mine Thumbs Up I did love it though, I didn't break it, but my Dad got me something else anyway once he saw I wasn't going to do what my sister did (write-off her first ever car - a lovely British racing green classic mini Crying or Very sad )

ah man! how can you do that to a mini! Laughing

In Fairness, i seem to love old Fords, escorts and Sierra's mainly though.

i'll be happy to drive whatever as long as it's cheap and will last me a year at least!

Vauxhall Viva with boost button (manual choke). Gear box was brilliant and smooth. Twatted it into the back of a MG MGB whilst preoccupied with a michelin man on the front of a truck and wrote it off. Bugger Crying or Very sad

Go for it....

We had two cars around the time I passed my test, a 1.2 fiesta and a Land Rover discovery. If I remember rightly they were both identical priced to insure and both cheap quotes too!.

Then I got bored one day and painted it
https://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d112/pitslayer/fasty/fastyfront.jpg

Really want it back on the road now, I miss scraping the floor, awesome handling and RWD and of course bendy glass rear windows

However this was the first car I ever bought

Which is currently looking like this and should be done in a few weeks

Mine was an EP2 Civic

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/267781_10150308887040712_5403101_n.jpg

I was actually in the market for an first generation Honda Jazz (ideally wanted an suzuki swift, but there weren't any that were cheap). No Jazzes were under £4000, and considering that I only had my car license 1 week with 3 points outstanding, insurance was going to be expensive.

Settled for the Civic because it was a much better specc'd car than the Jazz. It was just as economical, and more importantly £1500 cheaper! Mileage was only 70k miles in comparison to 80k+ on the Jazzes I was looking at.

I do miss the Civic Sport, but my celica is a totally different tool!

There's a fix, when (yes when) it goes at around 60k, retrofit the landy MLS gasket and then all should be golden Smile

My first car, fresh from the newly independent glorious nation of the Czech Republic... A Skoda Favorit. It had the steering wheel on the proper side though.

I miss my little red Eastern European breezeblock sometimes...

I had an x reg ('82) metro I bought from a work mate for £60... I found I could get 7 2x2 slabs and 4 people in it (all wheels rubbing the arches) and it still drove. For some bizarre reason the engine died after 4 days though Confused

Although I have been driving for 30 years and had a family car for most of that time, the first car that had my name on the log book was only 3 years ago and was a X reg 1.8 Mondeo bought at an auction for £400 and lasted 8 weeks befor going to the great mechanic in the sky.

My first car was a 1974 Renault 12 TL in a shitty brown colour, bought by myself in 1981 from my next door neighbour for £300. That car lasted just over 18months, then I bought a MK1 escort in british racing green for £300, but I managed to write it off in the middle of 5 cars. My favourite car though was my 3rd car, an R reg vauhall Chevette in red - PED 922R and I called him Pedro! Oh how I loved going to scrap yards and scrambling over cars to get some replacement bits for him.
