I have bought another bike recently for commuting and traveling and it's quite high mileage (40K) and I've had to do a few jobs to get it up to scratch.

Just wondering what miles people put on their bikes, and when what mileage you start to get major problems .

My SV is about to tick over to 50k. The engine is still cracking, but other issues are coming about.

FireBlade started having major problems at 30k, and they came thick and fast.

It didn't help that the bike lived outside, and prior to my ownership, only covered an average of 1500 miles a year. That soon changed when it got ramped up to 10k miles a year when I was on my graduate scheme.

So 30k, the following things went (mostly electrical)

Arrow Reg/Rec
Arrow Alternator
Arrow Cam position sensor
Arrow Various earth faults

And what I call wear and tear

Arrow Warped discs
Arrow New clutch
Arrow Suspension rebuild @ HM Racing (revalved rear shock and resprung fronts with linear springs matched to weight)
Arrow Camchain tensioner (started machine gun rattling)

And there was me thinking hondas were "reliable".

Now it lives indoors, on a trickle charge all the time, but I would consider the bike to be "refreshed" until it hits 60k miles, where the whole process starts again!

Have chopped and changed my bikes so often I rarely get issues relating to mileage.

Biggest ballache I had was the c+s on my FZR. Hadn't been changed for a good few years and as such the adjustment block had seized solid in the swingarm. It was on 45kish at the time.

Never had any issues regarding the engine in high milers, everything else goes first.

Mines a 2000 naked. The brakes need doing though, but that wear and tear I guess. Besides that its still like new, and started first time every time during the snowy months.

Speedo says 72k. Speedo is currently not working.

General wear and tear on footpeg rubbers, plastics, controls etc says over 100K.

69k, though the frame is the only original part of the bike left.

Ive never had major problems apart from a sprocket carrier bearing failing munching the swing arm.

Thats when the mods began....

There's no 410-420K option, nor a 80-90K one, so I can't vote on my RXS or Bandit 12. But I have a DT125R that's showing a mere 14,000 on the clock and seems to have had an owner in the past determined to wear out every component on the whole bike before 15K. Either that or the mileage is somewhat inaccurate Laughing

No idea what might have happened to it before I had it but the fat Bandit has given me no bother at all, except for a threaded mirror mount which may have been my own fault, in over 30,000 miles that I've had her.

The RXS has rarely been troublesome. Things wear out at a reassuringly predictable (very slow) rate.
