 |
|
My insurance company rang about key cover or something so I thought I'd ask how much extra it would be to add commuting and they said......£200!!! I can understand business use or something but and extra £200 just for commuting is ridiculous
I also asked if my policy included riding other bikes....you have to be 25

I already have the policy with them and was thinking of adding it on. Maybe if you run it as a quote it doesn't come up as extra??
I'm with Kwik Fit (express insurance). I just renewed with them as other quotes were not far off, had ridiculous excess and obviously I'd have to pay the deposit ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I was with WickedQuotes, thought they were great at first - £580 full comp incl. commuting gear cover etc. on my Street Triple (23y/o with 3 years NCD). This year however my renewal came through, £890 with £650 excess !! Apparently having another years NCD makes no odds, they've re-run the risks on some bikes and deem the Street Triple too much for a 24 y/o, hence stupid quote.
I've gone elsewhere for £520, though the excess is still £650 (tried 11 companies, all wanted £650 excess minimum, most I've ever paid in the past is £250).
Edit: - Sorry to hi-jack the thread somewhat, just needed to vent about twatish insurance companies... |

I've just run a quote through for the ZZR 600 and it's come back at £2000! ____________________ Looking to pass your CBT / Bike tests in Bury Lancashire? try www.focusridertraining.co.uk Would recommend.

With regards to high excess, I have excess cover which costs a bit extra but it means they pretty much pay the excess for you if that makes sense ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I am with the Ramasis Insurance camp here, been with them for four years now on different bikes and they are fantastic. Have had ride other bikes on my policy since I was 17. !
They are very, very cheap in my experience and they add ride other bikes for what amounted to <5% of my total premium on each bike. This combined with the fact that when I called to do my renewal he worked my insurance coverage to give me the exact same cover for like £55 less than my renewal which was great already (not marked up with the loyalty discount) really sets them apart in my opinion.
If you google "Ramasis Insurance" go to their website and do a quote on there with ride other bikes and see what it comes out as, it may well be very cheap compared to your current/next policy and worth checking. An extra £200 just for adding commuting seems mad, depending on what your policy cost you originally of course but insurance, law unto themselves, etc.
Cheers! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

to be fair you should have done quotes in the first instance with commuting on as you know at somepoint you'll be itching to beat the traffic in your daily grind.
everyone knows how insurance companies work, they'll try and get out of aything so if you crash going to work you're stuffed.
if it's any consolation I made the mistake/though i was being sensible and mentioned to my car insurer once that i was driving to uni and they said that they'd have to amend my policy to a business policy as driving to work and driving to uni classes as two places of work. annoying bt fortunate really cos I wrote my car off that year driving to uni |
