...use your front brake?

Just a random morning thought.

When your riding and covering your front brake how do you do it? Do you use all your fingers, or just some?

I was always told off for covering my front brake as much as I did in my training, as when I did I always only covered it with 3 fingers and kept my thumb and pointing finger around the throttle.

To this day I still do, and still cover my front break a hell of a lot of the time.

So there you go just a bit of a random question really.

was told on CBT not to cover brake in case of a crash becuse l would loose my fingers , but expenance makes me cover it with two fingers beause it will increase brakeing reaction time in traffic

I don't cover my front brake unless I feel a particular need to. Like maybe filtering through heavy traffic.

It varies for me, two fingers a fair bit of the time or if I feel I need to stop quickly four.

I was told not to cover my brakes when I was training too, I still do and always will do. If I feel that there is enough of a reason I cover to reduce stopping distance, I also cover the clutch ready to bang down the gears.

I only cover the break when in traffic / filtering.
or of course stopping, by which time i'm already squeezing!!!!!

I don't usually, but since I cut up a couple of my fingers and applied a makeshift plaster (normal ones come off inside my glove, plaster tape+lining=nice tight sticky home made plaster) I kind of have to cover it, or experience pain, and in all honesty, it is kinda useful, and after my test I may well do it more :>

Hmmmm interesting. For some reason i have never thought about covering the brake when filtering...i just scan left and right loads .may have to cover my brakes more though...

i suppose you could still keep the throttle open i bit (enough), and still have 4 fingers on the lever...Maybey not though. ill try

I usually cover the front brake with two fingers when filtering.

I tend to use all four but that is due to my brakes being dire at the moment, if I used two and hard to really squeeze hard I could probably trap the other two fingers.
Must sort them out really.

I always cover the brake with 2 fingers, the time spent moving your fingers could be the difference between hitting a car and missing it.

When I'm filtering I always cover both brakes. Most of the time when I'm cruising on a motorway or fast dual carriageway I cover the front too. 2 fingers.

When i'm doing something that requires it as in filtering then I use 2 fingers.

Other than that I dont as if it's a panic type situation I wouldnt pull on those 2 fingers anyway i'd straighten them all out until they all covered the brake and then squeeze.

Just something i've always done in hairy moments.

For those of you that cover your brake with 2 fingers, which fingers do you use?

If its not the little ones do you find you could trap them?

When I'm covering my brake with the 3 fingers even if I pull the brake right in my index finger wouldn't get trapped (I tried many times as this is a reason I was given not to do it).

When on the motorways I'm not always covering by the way, times when I'm filtering etc I am though.

I use my first 2 - and I don't trap my other fingers cos the lever doesn't come back far enough.

I don't normally cover the front brake unless i have good reason too.
My foot is however, everready with the rear brake. Generally if in trouble i press ont he rear brake, then pull on the front brake.

I don't cover any of the brakes. I tend to use engine braking quite a lot, especcially out on the main roads where braking is not really needed.

Only cover the rear brake when filtering, find it much better for slow speed control. Also once dropped the bike when it was new and pulled up sharply with the front brake...

I only ever cover the front brake if I'm filtering or there's a chance I may have to stop suddenly. Use 2 fingers if I do, index and middle.

Hi

I cover the front brake with all 4 fingers most of the time, and from 2 many years on a 2 stroke I also cover the clutch much of the time.

For some reason I never cover my brakes at all (unless I'm stopped at traffic lights I cover my rear brake and the same for when I'm filtering)

If I am filtering I more often than not cover my clutch, just my habit I spose, but then again I don't go at any great speeds when filtering, maybe 10-20MPH nothing faster though.

Infact saying that I very rarely use my brakes anyway, I use engine braking to slow down at lights and so on.
