Isn't Get-On run from lots of different bike schools? Not one company as such.

From my understanding Get-On is the scheme for people with out any previous riding knowledge or those returning to try out a bike and see if it is for them as it is advertised at many bike shows.

To be honest if you are thinking about booking one and you haven't done your cbt do it. One reason it is a free lesson on a bike and another reason is it might save you paying extra for another day if you have any balancing issues as it is free.

IF I'm wrong in any of this I'm sure legislation man will sort it out and show you the truth Laughing

Nope you don't when they are situated at events such as the Birmingham bike show they take everyone. Bear in mind that is just a taster show you the very basics, you will learn more on the CBT but that is why it is compulsory in this country.

Get-On is the freebie to get you interested in biking, you don't need any qualifications to do it nor do you get any qualifications at the end of it. But hey, free bike lesson Thumbs Up

You don't need to own any equipment either, just turn up and you will get helmets and gloves etc

Just in case you haven't checked the webby thing
https://www.geton.co.uk/content/whats-it-all-about&gclid=COiXwq3vkK4CFSgntAod0AvNgQ

Definitely worth a go, and if you do it pre-CBT it will give you an idea maybe if you want to go on and do that.

It's essentially a marketing scheme to give people a chance to sit on a bike before committing to spunk £100+ on a CBT.

While there's a central site for it, all they're really going to do is to pass you on to a local training school, so your experience will entirely depend on them and their attitude to giving away freebies. We've seen plenty of reports of trainers who can't be arsed even doing the CBT properly, let alone a free quickie.

So give it a go, and treat it as an opportunity to evaluate the training school. If you get some shouty spacker doing the course, just walk away and find someone better; I understand that you do a decent flounce.

Thumbs Up Triple post, all the way!

Yeah why not, I rode push bike and did a couple of driving lessons so had a bit of a jump on the other CBTers, the main thing is that i was on a geared bike and the rest were rev and go, so while i was fucking around trying to gear and pull off right there were NERRRRRRRRRRRRRing around on their portable hand dryers

Did one of these a few months ago, the company I was passed too seemed pretty uninteresting in doing it. Made to sign a £750 excess form before I was allowed to sit on a moped, then that was it really.

Then they constantly for the whole hour were trying to pressurise me in to booking a CBT there and then for a discount, which frankly still made it more expensive than a nearby training school with a very good reputation. Me and my partner have both opted to use another school (Camrider) for our training. The gentlemen who actually took my session was pleasant and interested, but another gentlemen who seemed to be in charge of the "business" side of things was rather abrupt and was making it quite clear this was a waste of time for all concerned - and that he was fed up with people just using it as an excuse to "have a go on a bike," which I didn't quite understand.

I can't comment on the whole system, and I will say the people I dealt with to book it were exceedingly helpful, but once I turned up I was remarkably unimpressed. I may have just come across people on a bad day, or a school that felt like they'd been "stitched up" by the scheme, but in my experience I kind of wish I hadn't of bothered.

That said it's difficult to complain about a freebie, and they are a business, not a charity - but I can't help thinking that if a company is not particularly interested in offering the scheme, they shouldn't do it as a platitude. Either show enthusiasm or don't bother....

Regards,
Andy

You are 1/2 way commited to a bike already; a 'Get-On' course wont really give you much of a head start for CBT, not that you need one; CBT = 'First-Lesson" its NOT a 'test' so no need to revise or practice for it; just turn up, open mind and DO IT.

Might, for the £30 these things cost give you a chance to way up a school, BUT that £30 is 1/2 a CBT course, and they'll have you past that first 'prod' stage in an hour or so, and onto more advanced stuff very quickly.

IF you were merely an curiouse by-stander wondering about bikes, YES, they are useful, for some-one already planning buying a bike, sorting the kit and getting themselves 'sorted' to do it all, its merely a toe in the water distraction, of little real value.

You'll get more from CBT, and the cert at the end of it, unless you are a complete numpty... WHICH I doubt.

You have done your home-work, you have your folks behind you, you are looking at the right bikes at the right money... you are doing it all pretty much by the book, with the right approach and the right attitude.... you have got the ball rolling, and in the right direction, time to stop thinking, and start riding, DONT complicate matters, just DO IT.

Book your free 1 hour taster session today!

My appologie's, you are right, according to the site; last time I looked, was sure it was £30 for a 1/2 day... maybe that was a schools own scheme...
However; stand by what I say; its not really worth the 'distraction' when he is already on track to doing it & halfway to buying his own bike.
