Hi. I've recently got my Yamaha ybr 125 '06 back on the road after an accident last year. On the way home from my MOT the bike cut out. I started it back up and now every time I switch the headlight on the bike instantly cuts out. After the crash I fitted a new headlight, but it worked fine for the first week or so. I'm not too good with bikes, my boyfriend usually fixes everything, but this is baffling him too. We've checked the fuses and all the connections and wiring and everything seems fine, but neither of us are too good with electrics. Any ideas? Please help.

Check wiring around the headstock. Sounds like something earthing out.

What Paddy said - check the loom where it passes under the tank and out to the headlight as well - it may have either chafed through or been physically damaged.

We had a good look at all the wiring yesterday and everything seemed okay, but I'll have another fiddle. I should probably mention that the bike only starts with the kick start, since I got it the electric start has never worked, and other parts such as indicators, the horn and the brake light have done this before, then randomly started to work again. People suggested a new regulator, or an entire new wiring loom, but I'm hoping it's just something simple. Also, oddly, when the headlight was working the higher the revs the dimmer the light would go, and when indicating the headlight would flash on and off. Everyone I've spoken to has been completely baffled, it's just problem after problem.

Yeah... sounds like the wiring has been kinda bodged back on.

Would get the loom clear to inspect, easy to remove various bits of that bike so would remove the loom, label it and check all wires.
