So i'm picking up my bandit soon and I need my brother to ride it home with me as a pillion, therefore I need to insure the bike for just one day, the day we bring it home.
Can anyone recommend a decent insurer that insures bikes for just one day?
Any links or numbers would be much appreciated Thumbs Up

Insure him then use the 14 day cooling off period to cancel.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

If I cancel in the 14 days cooling off period do I get my deposit back - the admin charges to cancel the policy?

If you cancel within 14 days they should not charge you more than the reasonable cost of setting up the policy, plus a pro-rata daily charge (i.e. 14/365s if you cancel after 14 days). There should be no administration or cancellation charges.

That's not to say that they won't, only that they shouldn't. Also, the Ombudsman has held that anything up to £50 is "reasonable" as set-up costs, which is hilarious when I've been offered policies for £57.

I know some of the 1 day insurance things closed down.

In the past I took out a policy on a bike I was looking to buy on a Friday night. Went to see bike, bike was knackered on test ride, didn't buy. Cancelled Monday morning.

Guessing it only got put through their main system Monday morning as for my 2 1/2 days of insurance I got everything but 1p refunded.
Most times it doesn't work out quite so well Smile.

eBike? I thought they required you to be the owner or registered keeper. Maybe not, it's past wine o'clock.

Eh, it'll get it on the MID either way. Wink

Nah, option to select not on the "security" page.

Either way, the V5 isn't proof of ownership Whistle But no, its not owned by me. Thumbs Up

It is, however, 'proof of registered keeper', that being what it is Wink.

That is true, but its listed as not being mine, insurance is the one thing I like to be legit, rape occurs otherwise.

So to clarify -
a, Are you insured yourself on it? (Eg could someone who has other bike cover themselves ride it for you?)
b, where do you need it moving from / to?
I'm assuming it's taxed and MOT'd by the way!
I'm thinking if you're just waiting for your licence but it's legal somebody else could move it for you?

Note for future reference: you can't really "cancel" a pay-monthly insurance policy. As far as I understand, you are really taking out a loan to pay for the insurance and you pay back the loan with your payments. So if you cancel, you'll still have to pay it off.

Pay monthly are still 14 day cooling off type affairs, you usually trump up a larger payment as the 1st one. I pay monthly, never have paid a year in full, purely due to bike switching Thumbs Up

Sell or ask the seller to sell via MCN. It'll cost the seller £15 to list it (which you can just give him on top if you go through with it), but you get 7 days free insurance. Thats £35 less than a 'reasonable' fee for cancelling full-blown insurance within 14 days.

Guys, guys, I've just remembered that bikes sold via MCN get 7 days free insurance. It only costs £15, you can just bung that to the seller. You're welcome.

Hire a freakin van. It will be cheaper than a day's insurance after the admin and 1/356th of a year's insurance cover.

£31 for a transit. Shocked
