My bike has an annoying (but highly effective) Datatool S4 alarm. It has auto setting, which is great, but if you stop and turn the ignition off say at a level crossing which I do occasionally. The alarm sets, you go to start up, alarm kicks in etc. etc.

If I hit the kill switch, alarm obviously doesn't come on and I can start when switching kill switch to normal.

On carbed bikes, leaving ignition on can wreck the coils, is this the same on FI bikes. As it's all electronic? Is it safe to do this, I don't do it all the time.

You'll be fine leaving the ignition on without the engine started for short periods like that.

It's not advised, as with headlight on and other accessories like heated grips, the battery could be drained and the bike not be so easy to start. I'm not sure how long you'd have to leave it on for this to be the case, though I doubt being sat at a level crossing would be long enough to do that to your bike's battery.

Although theoretically possible it is highly unlikely you will wreck the coils leaving the engine on. In fact on your ER6 the coils are more likely to die from corrosion as this is a common warranty claim on them.

I do wish you hadn't said that. I'm going to attempt to take them out today to change the plugs.
