 |
|
Hi guys,
I recently bought new sprockets and a chain for my bike. I went for a standard (45) rear sprocket, and a 13 for the front. As far as I know CG's are supposed to be 45 rear, 14 front. I went for a slightly smaller sprocket size on the front to give the bike a little kick in terms of acceleration. This worked and it feels much more punchy, but what I want to know is... is this a bad idea? The gears feel very short and the engine revs quite hard at 40+ MPH. Should I change it back to normal? Will I damage my bike because of high revs / gearbox / anything else by having a smaller front sprocket?
Thanks! ____________________ Honda CG125 (1990) |

...Derp.
Engine spinnig at 10,000 rpm bike is doing 70mph.
Engine spinning at 10,000 rpm bike is doing 60mph.
Engine spinning at 10,000 rpm bike is doing 30mph.
In any case, the engine is spinning at 10,000 rpm regardless of road speed & its holding an engine at high revs for a lengthy amount of time that's going to cause problems due to heat, friction, stress on internal components such as bearings and stuff.
Going on the assumption that altering gear ratio's damages engines how'd you explain the five alternate ratios the gearbox gives you from the factory?
However, smaller sprockets usually wear out faster. My JT front sure as hell did when i dropped a tooth on the YBR... ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
