Is there a way to polish out scratches, I've seen similar things done with headlights etc.

My lid, usually lives in the back of the car and I've paid the price. I've got a scratched visor I'd try it with. How to do it though?

I have 2 part perspex polish at work that I have been tempted to try a few times, I may dig an old visor out and give it a go. No idea on the effect the chemical will have on the plastic though. Anyway that would be the way I would go. Probably easier just to buy a new visor though.

Normally I'd agree with just replacing, but as the replacement cost me nearly £40 and didn't have pinlock like the original (didn't realise until I got it home), I wouldn't mind a stab at salvaging the original.

Yes you can polish out scratches.

I tried it using my machine and some compound. Works lovely and looks sparkly clear. Cool

Not so great is that any protective coating (most likely that is invisible to the naked eye) is also removed, so now water almost sticks to it rather than beading and blowing off in the wind, and also appears to scratch even easier than before now. Doh!

Not so cool.

I've bought a replacement visor for my HJC FS-11.

The eBay ones from Korea, etc, seem to be genuine - I mean, they look it, have all the right markings, come in what appears to be genuine pacakging and above all, fit just as well if not better than the one I bollocksed.

It was a good opportunity to get a light smoked one for summer use anyway, which cost me £20. It doesn't have pinlock - but then again neither did my original clear one on my HJC IS-16 - and they're the same visor part number, so perhaps the cheaper ones are old stock or something. Personally, I knew this at teh time of buying, and I dont' care as I never use pinlock inserts anyway.

Is there some kind of a protector that can be applied to a new visor to avoid scratches in the first place?

Hammerite?

Not aware of any, but any optically clear material that you can get to stick on should do. Heck, you could try a layer of cling film.

A friend did suggest I use T-Cut on the scratches on my visor.
his reasoning was the visor was pretty fucked any way so nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Our Perspex polish is far finer than tcut FYI. I'm not sure much else would do the trick. If I remember I'll bring in my old visor on my next weekend shift and have a go.

Not used it on a visor but it brought up the headlights on my old car like new and removed all the stone chips from the bikes headlights Thumbs Up

I would keep the visor wet and take your time, should come up ok.

Also I have Ventureshield over my bikes headlights and unless you look really close and see the edge it's invisible.

I used Mcguiers PlastiX solution in the past to get scratches out of various bits of perspex, from light clusters on car to perspex lids on turntables. The bottle even suggests it can be used on CD's/DVD's too. Can pick the stuff up Halfords for about £5-10 ish, probably even cheaper off ebay.

Not sure about visors, but probably worth a shot. If you're going to be bin it anyway, what have you got to lose.

Laughing .

Just no. T-Cut is fine enough to polish out scratches on paint etc, but when you have to look through the material, it doesn't work. Won't work on screens either.

For the record I didn't use T-Cut, it was his suggestion as my visor was fucked. had I done i would have used the metallic variant as it is finer than the standard stuff.

Two ways not to get it scratched.
1. Keep it in a helmet bag unless it is on your head.
2. Never let a girl carry it for you Sad
