Hey,

I've got a small Yamaha CS50 moped - I only got it in March but already the exhuast seems to be going rusty? I don't know why considering it's kept in the garage overnight and I don't go out much in the rain. Is there anything I can do to prevent any more rusting? I've attached an image to show what it's like at the minute.

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers,
Aaron

high heat black paint after a gentle sand off to clear the rust will make it look better- but it may come back as most of the black high heat finishes are porous and tend to rust

As above, Use Plastikote BBQ paint. If you've got a Range nearby, its the cheapest place I've found to buy it.

Cheers guys, just went to the range to get some, got to the checkout and apparently there's an age restriction on it Rolling Eyes

Will have to order it online

Is it best to take the exhaust off before spraying it?

Depends on how well you mask off the rest of the bike, it might be simpler to leave it on, although probably not as neat.

If you do remove it, beware that the bolts holding it on might be heavily rusted and seized to the point of snapping. It will be a major pain in the neck if they snap. You'll also probably need a new gasket to seal it to the engine again.
