Has anyone sprayed their bike with plastic dip.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvkq-qyY9aY&feature=player_embedded

I looks like fairly decent product. Does anyone know if any stores stock them, since i can't seem to find plastic dip in red online :L

Just can't wait to use these bad boys on my rims and if i don't like the affect i can just simply peel them off.

Yes,

I have and made a complete mess of it! My suggestion is to go for black! White plastidip simply doesn't mask the imperfections. If you want to use the rattlecans, then you're asking for trouble with white.

Dipmycar.com on youtube uses an airless sprayer. If you do use that method, make sure you go for an pretty comprehensive and controllable model. Mine was a £25 jobbie that I thought would suffice. It made a huge mess on my garage floor and drank through the mixture like George Best! You'd be looking at more than 4 litres to do the bike thoroughly in light colours + thinner.

Better still, use a compressor.

Or better still, do a proper paint job! For the costs of plastidip, you can probably get your tools to rattle-can spray your whole bike for less than £100.

6 cans of plastidip = £80, not to mention my experiment with the airless sprayer - £40 for 1.5l amd thinner!

Go figure!

I probably wouldn't have minded if I went for a black paint job, because the adherance was good after 3 coats, but white is NOT right!

I've been considering spraying my lid with plastidip for a while. My 2p is that its a good quick fix if you fancy a change, but as the tot said, for the cost ( it seems to be a hell of a lot cheaper/bigger in America), you may as well use paint.
I may buy a can to do the lid and post pics on here to show how it came out.

Plastidip is really cool stuff.

I used it to paint my rear pegs black (but after a while I decided to don't have any pegs at all)

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/pegs.jpg

Against metal it is fine and it will remove without leaving any marks. But if you are spraying against some plastic surfaces (like fairings/helmet) it may take away the glossy finish when you remove it.

That thread is very inspiring, I have some old track rims I might try it on.

I'm fairly friendly with a local car dealers in our village, and he had a VW Toureg done in Plastidip.

I must admit, it looks a lot better than traditional wrapping, as it goes right round edges and into gaps.

There's a place near me in Woking that does it.

It does work well on car alloys too, so should work on bike wheels

Yeah, I'd do any bike bits myself.

I'd imagine you'd get a better and more uniform coat if done professionally.

I think its the same bike as paddy's and I would imagine he would get the sick affect if he made his rims red.

If your struggling to find any red plastic dip i found some

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380330386787?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

(i bought two)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280930590231?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

(paint thinner to use at a 1:1 ratio)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380316890110?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

(paint gun)

I can't seem to find any glossifier, due to the lack of stock of plastic dip held me uk retailers. So I may have to stick with matt red for the time being.

I didn't carry any pillion, but if you apply 3 or 4 layers of plastidip it is quite thick and should take any abuse.

I normally use it for waterproof stuff and when I forgot to put heat shrink Tubing on my projects Smile

The idea is to peel it off and reapply.

Yep its only 15 pound per 450ml When i come to sell or change my tyre i can either peel off and reapply or just peel off the paint revealing the nice stock paint underneath which would have been protected by plasticdip. Note some people use plasticdip to prevent rust.

Perhaps to protect paint, but maybe clear vinyl would work better. I have some on my forks, the tit that put it there, only put small patches, so I have some good paint surrounded by shitty rotting paint. A can of hammerite would last longer, be cheaper and easier to touch up

A roll of clear film** costs 45p (aldi when they do stationary, and I think asda, probably many other places). I have used it to temporary cover a whole in fairing last year. It also takes paint quite well. It has not yet started to unstick desipte high speeds and plenty of rain Thumbs Up

** do not know if its vinyl or something else.
