You could try the search function because this has been discussed to death before...

You will find it hard, if not impossible, to get insured to ride a bike you do not hold a valid licence for.

Que the naysayers!

Pay the money for DAS and use the schools bike, job done.

Temporary cover is not easy to get now, even with a full licence. One of the few companies that provided it (Flexirider) pulled out last year.

You can do a search for Pay As You Go insurance. Some companies offer this and it works on a monthly cover basis. However, I think you will have problems due to your learner status.

Sorry, can't think of any. It's a real titty twister that it's so hard to do it all legally and above board.

Someone on here did say that they'd got insurance on a provisional on the basis that they got licensed up within 2 weeks, but I can't recall who and that doesn't leave any time for foul ups anyway.

What I'll note purely as facts are:

#1 The DSA only ask you to sign a declaration that it's insured, and possibly (I don't recall) only for mod 2.

#2 If it's on the MID, then you're invisible to ANPR and are vanishingly unlikely to get tugged by a roaming copper while on test.

#3 Swinton (among others) don't ask to see a copy of your license when you take out the policy.

#4 If you were to obtain insurance on the basis that you have a license, that would be fraudulent, in theory criminally, so don't do it.

However, if you did so, then in practice it would only become an issue if you stack it into someone else while on test.

Morally, your conscience would be clear since your insurer would pay out anyway, although they could then pursue you to recover their costs.

So, definitely don't do that. Probably.
