Seems to be hard to find an answer on this.

My friend's brother has just passed his CBT, and wants to get insured on his NSR.

Is it possible? Friend doesn't want to cancel his policy or anything like that.

Some insurance phone monkeys will tell you it's not possible.

They don't know what they're talking about.

No reason why not.

Is it actually possible to insure a machine that's not in your name?

I seem to recall small print saying that insurance was invalid if covered by another policy

This nugget again.

You can have as many policies on a vehicle as you like.

You can ONLY claim on 1, otherwise that is fraud.

You can insure a bike that doesn't belong to you, you just have to choose who the bike belongs to in the insurance comparison sites. Usually you have policyholder/parents/brother etc.

Done countless times, will continue to do so.

I wouldn't advocate letting a learner loose on a bike though, especially one that requires fairly decent looking after.

I had a CBR125 that was mint. My friend pogo'd it into a roundabout on his first journey home from work.

It turned up completely fucked. No lights left, forks twisted and wasn't replaced.

Dat. Insuramongs screeching "Is unlegal!" are just precious.

However, it might not be so clean cut if things go wrong, or even in a tug by Plod who checks the MID and sees Certain Information That Leads to Reasonable But Non Articulatable Suspicions.

What, for example, if it's nicked or burns while "friend's brother" is out on it with TPO cover, when "friend" has TPF&T that wants it locked in a garage?

It would seem to be simpler to put "friend's brother" on "friend's" insurance.

If I borrow someones bike and need to insure, tpft is what I go for, I'd expect others to do the same. Covers for typical it got robbed situations.

I'd go FC if I wouldn't be able to cover cost of repairs should shit happen.

chances are you can't add another rider.

Friend is with e-bike. As they're both on CBTs I don't think they'll do it.

Nope,

MCE will. But you might as well just flop your dick onto a cactus now and hit it with a hammer.

He couldn't claim to be his brother if he got pulled up Whistle

Aye that may be so... Whether it is legal or not is neither here nor there.

The main beef with it is finding an insurer who wants the business.
Most don't. You canny force them to take your business like you canny force the landlord to serve you drink. It's 'His Hoose His Rules!'
