Currently, you can be charged for not making phone calls and not paying by DD.

Now you have this gem from 1st July

https://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44027/kw/paper%20billing/c/761,2072,2098

I object to everything paper free as I like to receive a utility and bank statement through the post, just for id purposes.

What's next, a charge for not answering your phone? My phone isn't plugged in, I don't use it as no-one calls me on it that I need to speak to.

Virgin Media have been doing this for a few years, £2 for a paper bill and I think £5 charge for not paying by direct debit, another money scam. Better for the enviroment how?, instead of paper you now use more energy in the pc and associated perepherals.

A charge for not paying by DD!?

I always thought most companies just give you a discount for paying by DD.

I think you are right, but it's perception in this case.

You have to understand as with most ex public utilities and companies (like BA).

BT isn't a teleco, its a massive pension black hole with a small teleco attached to it

BT have, year on year, since 1992, been making, annual, net profits measured in Billions.
Their average, annual, pension liability is 533M!
Hardly a "Black Hole"!

Poh-TAY-to, poh-TAH-to.

With insurance, do you get an "introductory discount" the first year, or a "loyalty penalty" every other year?

Virgin are pretty crappy, but BT actually gave my number away to someone else, then flat out asserted that I'd told them to. I think I'd have remembered that. Rolling Eyes

Exactly what I thought, but couldn't figure out how to 'say' it! Very Happy

I left BT a few years ago for O2 line and broadband, it was fabulous. Fully unlimited, no real problems. Then infinity came along, I have to say their service has been excellent since. Just wish they weren't fleecing me for every possible thing.

O2 was BT when I got my current mobile contract.

I don't think they've been linked to BT for a decade now. Internet is supplied by BE or was (I think they've just offloaded that to Sky I think), O2 was/is part of Telefonica.

From 1 July 2013 there will be a £1.50 fee for BT Broadband customers who get a paper bill, to cover costs such as printing and postage. We’ll notify everyone who is going to be affected by this in April or May. You’ll have to pay the £1.50 fee each time you get a bill through the post.

IF I used BT from 1 July 2013 to cover my own costs I would charge BT sixty pence for the stamp I put on the envelope with the cheque in. Thirty pence for the envelope, ten pence for the ink and time to write the address on the envelope. Twenty pence for the cheque and my time and ink filling it out. Then an additional forty pence 'handling' fee that included transporting it to the post box. Oh and twenty pence for checking that the bill is correct.

You're quite a few years out of date if you're still posting cheques!

Really? cheques still work as a form of payment and the postal service just about still works. I have had three cheques in this week and posted five out. It works just fine for me and virtually everyone I transact with.

The worst thing is, they keep ramming e-billing and other such nonsense down our throats to save, save, save and the one thing we still have on paper is one the one thing no-one needs anymore. The tax disc. Not only that, as these are special paper with markings etc. etc. they are inherently expensive. I know it's the old debate, but you MOT paper is almost useless these days. My garage actually prints on green paper so it looks more realistic.

Insurance is just the same, e-certificates because they show up on MID. Yet I had to laugh when I canceled a policy last year, I was sent an e-certificate that I printed out. When I canceled they insisted I returned the certificate as legally required

Oh we could improve it lots...... the problem is Swansea's economy would probably collapse overnight.

BT are hardly alone in this and i'm surprised they don't charge for it already.

You do realise you can print your own paper bills? For ID purposes etc.
