a mate has a set of decent barely used leathers he would sell to me, but the colours are horrid and would make me look like a power ranger. is there any way to dye leathers?

Why bother, it gives me great pleasure to shout "Its Morphin' Time" when I dig the leathers out.

You can go darker, especially to black.
Most of the dye bottles (e.g. ebay) are for smaller items but you could do one panel at a time I guess.
Expect the colour shows through to some extent, which might not matter or even look quite good with some colours.

I would be amazed if you don't get some bleed effects if they get wet.

yeah i would be dyeing the whole suit black. would that be possible without the old colours showing through? ive read some places that people have been successfull, and others that say due to the dye already there its not possible. if it could be done, could i then not coat it with something to prevent the bleed effect?

I've dyed leather boots black.
A couple of bottles of dye. Several coats. Patience while it's drying.
Polish 'em up afterwards.
These were yellow+black boots, sadly I've not got pics as the boots have since been sold.
We've bought 'black' boots on ebay that were a terrible dye job. Sad Originally the boots were red.
We did a good dye job and the boots became an even black. Again, not got them anymore.

So the answer is YES, you can dye leathers.
