Good choice Smile

Here is a guide on things to look out for when buying a bike https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=16507

And remember it is a 2 stroke, so if you buy it remember to let it warm up properley before opening it up, and don't forget the 2 stroke oil!

Very Happy

Before you buy the bike, you need to make sure that the bike is ok. It's easy to get excited and not bother to check it over, you could end up with a complete lemon and have a lot of costly repair bills. Read that guide or take someone who knows what they are doing along with you, unless you do of course Smile

Don't look too excited about the bike when you get their, point out the bad bits, stroke your chin a lot and try to knock the price down Very Happy

Good luck and I hope that the bike is what you expect it to be Thumbs Up

That seems to be the going rate for them, but their is no harm in knocking the price down, might as well save some cash! he has probably raised the price to accomodate for it Wink

When I finish rebuilding my 1990 NSR125F it will come to a total cost of about £700. your bike is 10 years newer, looks better and is probably a little quicker Smile

Whats all this business about engines blowing up Sad how will i know if this has had a rebuild or if its got 100 miles to go before boom, as im a noob i cant listen out for the knocks etc cos im inexperianced.

I will be 100% fcuked off if i get this bike and after a few outings it goes boom!!!!

Especially when im going to pay £1500 for it, i was going to get a CG but my mate (GZV 250((i think)) and my brother CBR600 were taking the piss out of me!!

The NSR im buying today has done 6200 miles, is that alot should i expect it to have had an engine rebuild?

Unless its got slick tires and numbers on the fairing...No. Razz

look at the bike and check how clean it is, how much oil is in it, ask how much it is used, long journeys or short hops etc.

if the thing looks untidy, is low on oil, there is dirt everywhere, the tires are bald and the fork seals are leaking, then chances are the last owner has done no maintanence and that its in shit order. same can be said for if the bike has only been used for short journeys.

So long as the bike has been fed a diet of high quality oil all its life. Allowed to warm up properly, and has been taken for a good long run every now and then. A habit which you keep up then it should be fine for many years to come.

Ask Danny about getting you a cheaper insurance quote.

I would make sure the bike had a full service history if I were you. It's a learners bike, therefor if it doesn't have a full service history there is a chance it hasn't been serviced properly.

If it has no service record whatsoever then I would probably walk away. I'm no mechanic though so I wouldn't be able to tell if it had been regularly serviced or not. Confused
