Ah right ok. Well, still my genuine advice would be to use a toothbrush dipped in fairy liquid. Lather it on, give it a little scrub, leave it to soak for a bit, then scrub it some more, and douse in water to rinse it all off. May or may not work. I just know washing up liquid works a treat when I've got oily hands Thumbs Up

Aldi sell a citrus based degreaser/adhesive residue remover in little aerosol spray cans which has shifted everything I have ever tried it on. Smells lovely too.

Failing that Bilt Hamber do a similar product but it is more expensive.

Hein Gerike sell a de-greaser you spray on, leave for about five mins then was off. I used it on both of my air-cooled BMW R1200GS. The engine side pods aye came up looking all bright and shiny like a brand new pot.
The dealers use Muck-Off or similar to do the same job.

Remember most engines are painted so anything you use must be paint friendly.

If once you get it cleaned it still looks scabby then it may be the bare metal that has oxidized so looks black. If so you could botch it with a rattle can of 'Silver' paint or has the engine Soda Blasted and painted.

I don't know if the engine has to be out the frame for that though.

Take yourself off to your local hardware shop and buy either a bottle or spout brush and treat yourself to a couple of cheap washing up brushes (always useful things). Then off to the motor factors and buy a can of gunk or jizer.

Apply gunk or jizer. Apply liberal doses of elbow grease. Repeat as necessary. Thumbs Up

I used, albeit bodge worthy, sandpaper on a stick. Slide it in the gap and rub back and forth. Then grab your trusty washer and blast that shit or get a sponge with the green pad and squidge between the gaps.

Personally, I wouldn't bother though, so much effort for such little reward.

Sandpaper (Which is actually made with crushed and graded glass stuck to scotch glue.) will clean it but it will also remove any protective coating (paint).

But it will get it shiny bright. Smile

Just paint it after. (when the resultant muscle pump calms down.)

Cillit Bang grime and lime (the purple bottle) Shifts everything but make sure you wash it off after 5 mins with plenty of water or it will start chewing lumps out of any alloy it touches!

I use paraffin to get the oil from the scottoiler off the back wheel. just fill a jam jar with it and use a normal paint brush to apply it then it just wipes off with a sponge. try paraffin and a toothbrush.
