Recently bought my old bandit back. The headgasket went, so the previous owner bought a second engine to swap over.

This second engine was a straight swap, however the exhaust doesn't fit properly because it hits the sump. Is there a difference between exhausts or sumps on different year bandits?

You can swop most of the oil cooled sumps around between models, someone has possibly swopped one on your "new" motor probably to save replacing a stripped sump bolt thread. Headers are also different lengths to allow for the differennt depths/clearance, 1200 ones are longer.
No reason why you can't put the sump off your original on this one as long as you also swop over the oil pick up tube as they are matched for the different lengths to make sure they are the right depth to work.

Thanks for that Karma

Do you know if it's the same for the bandit 600? Do the 600 and 1200 share sumps?

the 600 is derived from the gsxr750 and the 1200 is derived from the gsxr1100 as far as I can recall, most parts are compatible between pairs but its only really cams that are compatible/worth changing from the big ones to the little ones.

ask on https://old-skool-suzuki.proboards.com/ for a definite answer.

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

The 6 and 12 sumps are interchangeable but not sure if they are the same depth, it's easy enough to measure and check if you've still got the old one to compare.

The slabbie 750 motor is the base for ALL the oil cooled motors. There is a bit of mix and match yes, but a lot of stuff won't swop easily. Dot heads and GSXR 750 J&K /GSXR1100 K&L are the standard performance mods.
