Hi, so basically, I took my bike to a local recommended bike shop that do a discount for a group I'm in. All I wanted was oil and filter change, bleed through clutch, do valve clearances and balance throttle bodies. Got quoted 50 quid for this, which is pretty reasonably (50% off parts and labour) Bike was running fine, a bit lumpy at idle but not terrible.
Anyway, this was last Tuesday, I work 6 days a week anyway and only ride sporadically so I said they could have the bike for a week or however long to fit it in, especially because of the massive discount. So I rang them yesterday (Tues) to see how they were getting along to be told that the owner had tried to get hold of me to tell me he'd done the work I'd asked for, but it had a fault where it the front cylinder would cut in and out, but that he was going on holiday for 2 weeks. So he's on holiday now and left some old guy and some kid there.
So I went to get it today, having already paid upfront for the work, and got the bike, expecting it to run normally, but for it to drop to one every now and then. It seems on idle when it's started up, it runs on two, but after a few moments the front cylinder cuts out, and only fires every couple of minutes for a few seconds. As they'd already said there was not much they could do until the main guy came back, and it was only 10 miles I just gently rode it home anyway. I'm going to kick off when he returns but there's very little point in me doing it to his employees who basically don't have a clue about what he even did, just gave me the job card.
So yeah. There's a distinct petrol smell when it's running from between the tank and fairings, so I'm presuming it's just likely to be a kinked hose or something, or that there's a connection not quite right or similar and the smell of petrol is from the unburnt fuel. I do not have the time to start taking it apart as I'm working a lot. I don't really want to take it to Robinsons Foundry as they'll bum rape me for lots of cash just to even have it in their workshop. Any suggestions? ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

Yes. The group and the owner are somewhat affiliated, so he does give a massive discount. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

Well that's a good start but really annoying to know Paddy.
Where did you take yours to get done? ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |

I'd also suspect a faulty plug or coil failing.
It's unlikely to be serious.
Might not even be related to the work done on it. |
It's possible. I haven't taken anything apart yet to have a look as I only had a 2 hour window to collect it and it's pissing down with rain.
I agree that it might be unrelated, but it seems unlikely that I ride it for hundreds of miles with no issue, then give it to a shop and suddenly it has this problem. ____________________ Previous: GSF600, FZR600 x2, ZXR750, XT600 Tenere, CB125, CZ125, ETZ 250, ER5, CCM R30, DRZ400, RF600x4, RF900x2, GS500, VTR1000F, 640 SMC, CB250 NIGHTHAWK, GT550x3, GPX750 TE610, CB500, X11x2, SV650, ZING 125, TL1000R,CB250 Superdream, CBR1100XX |
