Chain tension

Hi i have a Kawasaki ZXR 400L i am was wondering if 10-15mm of chain slack sounds too tight ?

The manual says 5-10mm is correct, too tight is less than 5mm and too loose is more than 15mm.

This sounds far too tight however i have noticed the way i have it now the chain can hit the swingarm when pushed fully upwards.

Im not asking how to adjust it just about the 5-10mm chain slack ?

Remember to sit on it when testing the tension. Your weight adds a bit more tension, obviously this will vary depending on your weight and bike. Sit on it and bounce around.

Yeah I thought 25mm-35mm is a general "rule of thumb".

I always go for the 35mm end tbh.

Could a shorter/longer swingarm/chain make it a different spec that most maybe? Just follow the manual it should be fine

Yeah, 5-15mm does seem very tight.
I always aim for about 3-35mm.

Dont forget to check for any tight spots.

Just be aware that the Japs sometimes measure things from different points. 5-10mm might be correct somewhere.

Like others have said if do what most do which is measure the chain at the tightest point in the centre of the swingarm then 25-35mm is a far better option.

I think it depends on the bike and it is best to stick to the manual. On mine, anything more than 20mm and the chain will start scraping on the chain guard!
