Talking about his accident (foot crushed by a Volvo) and 'Ridiculous' laws that leave young bikers at risk (Channel TV Headline) I wish he'd brushed his hair!

Firstly, why does it matter what cc he was riding if his foot was crushed by a Volvo... as in not his fault?

Secondly, if he and his friend didn't seem like such gormless fools then I would be slightly more sympathetic. As if passing a simple test means you will no longer be a young lad who wants to go fast on his new toy, L plates or not.

Thirdly, I want to move to Guernsey if 17/18 year olds can get good enough jobs to buy newish 1200cc bikes and insure them. My point is, how many of these kids had their bikes paid for my their parents. Did you as a responsible parent do the token nagging/worrying about whether your kid is wearing at least the basics of gear?

It's not like they can hoon off down NSL roads.

I understand he was asked leading questions - as was Corie. However, I did think it a bit incongruous, my 17-year-old taking about 'young kids today'. I guess 14-year-olds on 50's do look young to a 17-year-old.

I know. I don't have a problem with people riding on a Provisional either, if they renew it every two years they need to take a 1-hour DA to get it validated. An inspection and feedback on your riding skills by a professional instructor every two years doesn't sound bad to me if you are a 'new' rider.

Are you asking me? My kids wear helmet, gloves and jacket all year round. They paid for their own bikes. Insurance is a little different here compared to the UK, obviously no 14-year-old could get insurance on a 50 in the UK. Even with my son's 3 years NCB he wouldn't be able to get insurance on a 1200cc. Lots do for a 600.

Joseph overtook slow moving traffic and collided with a car turning right across his path.

I get what you're trying to say. You're happy to introduce new laws to young riders as it doesn't affect you.

Just because you choose to not ride a powerful bike doesn't mean that others should too.

I'm all for people to have the freedom of choice.

I was riding 1000cc sportsbikes at 19 and I'm not dead.

I find this oft-repeated but ugly mantra curious. Why do people keep saying that? What do you mean by a privilege? Is like something like a title bestowed by the Queen? Saying that, you do realise that the immediate reaction any young person (not me - I'm not young) has is to conclude you are suffering from incurable jealousy? Also that there is an argument that almost every piece of safety legislation we have adopted is because of someone misrepresenting saying they have a moral obligation to look after someone else? All you're saying is that you should have the power to make choices for them. You're interfering with evolution.
