Engine paint?

I have just put a deposit down on a 98 bandit 600, the engine is a little corroded and could do with being sanded and painted.

When my Haynes manual gets here i will be stripping it down and painting various parts.

How would i go about painting the engine after i have sanded all the corrosion off? Does it need primer or can the engine paint go on directly? Also what is the best quality silver paint i can buy as i don't want it to peel off for at least a good few years.

for a good finish spray lots of even coats and leave plenty of time to dry .I prep the ally to clean , and degrease before first coat , then light sand over , clean , more thin coats .T ake your time , like days if possible between coats . Finish the lot of with a tough transparent laquer to protect the finish , and the polished ally .

Thanks, what make of rattle cans would you recommend? I want the best quality paint i can afford

On the Fazer, i used to spray some black BBQ straight on when the engine was warm. Lasted from spring to end of summer. It took about 5 minutes.

You should be able to get some silver chiminea paint and do the same.

Sanding down the whole engine and priming sounds like a long way round to get a similar result.

I want to sand it down and do everything properly so that when it is finished, it will look like a brand new engine. I will be ordering some paint tomorrow. I didnt know you could get lacquer that could take the heat.
